Hi lovely people, today I will be talking about 7 secret ways to keep curly hair healthy, soft and shiny. A lot of us have been blessed by this hair type. I know curly as well as wavy hair beauties need a lot of time and patience to take care of those beautiful manes, but I am sure there are a few easy things we all can do to make our hair healthy soft and shiny.
It does get pretty difficult to manage curly hair especially if you live in a hot and humid areas. If you got curly long hair and you have been to a beach, you will know exactly what I am talking about. Curly hair tends to get rough if we do not take proper care of it. Once it becomes rough, it starts loosing its lusture and becomes dull. Rough hair gets entangled very quickly. Now, I am gonna tell you guys 7 ways, which might seem very easy but well, if you start following them, you will notice the difference yourself. You will notice a considerable reduction in hairfall as well.
I would you all to chant a mantra with me “Roughness is our Enemy”
On that note, without wasting anymore time, lets get started.
1. Sleep with Hair Tied
Well yes! If you are one of those girls who sleep with their hair open, you sure do wake up with tangled hair, unless of course you do not move even a bit while you sleep. 😀
When you sleep with your hair open, there is friction created among the hair strands. The friction causes disruption of the previously intact outermost layer of the hair strand. So, naturally the hair start becoming all tangled up and messy. The strands get caught up amongst themselves and make you scream and shout while you brush your hair.
Now, when you tie up your hair while sleeping, your hair does not undergo as much friction. Thus, there is enormous reduction in friction. No roughness, no tangles, no mess! Remember “Roughness is our Enemy” You can make yourself a top bun, a braid or just anything, where you catch your hair all together and let them all cuddle up amongst themselves while you sleep.
2. Brush thy Hair Before Washing your Hair
I know, sounds lame right? However my loves, if you do brush and take out all the tangles from your hair before you wash your hair, trust me your hair will kiss you when it dries up. If you haven’t known this, I request you to try this out next time you wash your hair and you will notice the difference for yourself. It will be easier for you to apply and wash off shampoo, your conditioner will work more effectively when there are lesser tangles and moreover, when you dry your hair, you will notice almost no tangles in your hair giving you that amazing feel (running your fingers through fresh hair and not coming across a single tangle! )
3. Use Conditioner
Ladies, you need conditioner in your life, we need to accept this fact. Even if you have oiled your hair before washing it with shampoo, you still need conditioner after you shampoo! Conditioner makes the outermost layer even out and reduces the roughness. Conditioners also have keratin softners which will increase the flexibility of your hair. My favourite conditioner is of course Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque. Also if you don’t want to spend a lot of money, you can also go for a home made hair treatment. I use a DIY Mask for Instant Soft and Shiny Hair.
4. Stay away from Dirt, Pollution and Sun Damage
Yes, you need to stay away from these three notorious imps if you want your hair to smile. I need not explain how pollution and dirt causes hair to become sticky and rough, and Sun will take away all natural moisture. In addition, it will make your scalp sweat, causing itchiness and there! you will start having hairfall. So what we do is, we protect our hair. Wear a hat, a cap or make yourself a fancy bandana thingy. Whatever it be, protect your hair. We have lots of hair products in the market these days which have spf in it, try including them in your routine.
5. Use the Right Kind of Products.
By right, I mean to say the products which suit you. Example, for me, sulphates are my hair’s biggest enemies, sulphate has never failed to make my hair fall. It was kind of a late realisation but well, now I know what suits my hair. For details of the products that I use on my hair frequently, you can go through My Hair Care Routine. If your hair gets tangly, use a detangler. Use a serum or something which keeps your hair soft and manageable. This will come to use by hit and trial. Wait for it.
6. Use a wide toothed comb or Brushes Designed for Curly Hair
This is one of the most important points, Please do not tug on your hair while its tangled up. If you use a comb with narrow teeth, it will get stuck and you will end up ripping your hair, not to mention rubbling and tugging causing roughness. If you’re using a brush, make the ones designed for curly hair. These generally have widely spaced bristles and won’t cause a lot of tangles. I personally prefer a wide tooth comb over brush. Well, if you follow the tip No. 2, your hair will not tangle up as much anyways 🙂
7. Drink Water
I cannot stress enough, how important it is for your hair. Well basically water is good for your hair, skin, nails and your overall health. It keeps you hydrated and makes hair grow faster. Hair is healthier and less brittle. It can do wonders for your hair if you get into the habit of drinking ample amount of water daily. Drink at least 8 ounce glasses of water per day. If you don’t like water, then let me reframe my sentence for you. Drink at least 8 ounce glasses of fluids everyday. It may be juice, flavoured water etc.
I hope you I was clear with my explanation and you guys found it useful. For any queries, drop me a comment below. Also share with us more Hair Care tips if you wish.
Have a great weekend everyone 🙂
