The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain Dutch Tulip 012 Review, Swatches: Hello brightsparks! There are some things that should never fade away. Love and lipstick being two top priorities. So when I was introduced to a lip stain by The Body Shop a few years ago, it became such an integral part of my makeup bag that I would start stressing as soon as the levels in the bottle dipped to less than half. It was almost an addiction.

In Detail The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain Dutch Tulip 012 Review, Swatches and My Experience

First things first, I am NOT happy with the drastic reduction in size of the bottle – and therefore quantity of the product. It is a midget now, compared to its predecessor! And the fact that the bottle is opaque means you cannot see how much of the product is left! The vacuum-like closing also means that you cannot force the last few drops of the product out! Not fair! Also, when I first tried the lip and cheek stain by The Body Shop, it was a plum-mauve colour that after applying seemed to give an rosy glow to the skin.

This colour, Dutch Tulip, is a bright orange. The texture is like a watery souffle. But do not admire it for long and blend it really fast because it does stain VERY fast.

By very fast, I mean you cannot afford to wait even a second without blending it. The colour looks natural only if you are able to blend it well. That is the other thing, you will make a few boo-boos until you figure out how to apply it. The fact that the applicator wand is much shorter in length also means that one does somehow end up having too much of the product on the sponge applicator. Do remember that while the gel-based formulation gives your lips a supple and luscious look, it is fast drying and must be blended really quickly. The thin formula allows it to absorb into your lips rather than sitting on top like lipstick

How I Use it

I always moisturize well before applying this on my cheeks – and never apply directly – but using a dot at a time on my blending sponge – so that it looks more natural and not streaked.

Effects

It is a orangey-red shade – doesn’t look so natural on wheatish skin. On first application it seems to put an excess amount on the edges of the lips, looks initially streaky and not a smooth look at all, looks as if you have put on a lip liner only!! Then after a few minutes, it goes tacky then dries. For me the colour was just not strong enough and looked like I had forgotten to apply a lipstick after the lip liner. The only issue is that it is quite drying.

A few hours after putting on lip balm over the stain, it starts fading at the edges and my lips don’t look as defined. Stays put for about 4-5 hours max before reapplication is needed. I am not happy with the new avatar as I was smitten with the original stain. I would not buy again once I use this one up. Disappointed that the quantity has been reduced from the first time I purchased this.

  1. I was waiting for someone to agree with me when I said this was a crap product! Thank you for being so honest! This is such a truthful review and I must compliment you for that! Fab pictures too – unlike other blogs that photoshop them. These are the exact colours.
