Colorbar Spotlight Illuminating Lotion Review, Swatches: Hello women! Dry and harsh winters are right round the corner and what I hate most about them is how they make the skin look dull. Moisturisers just don’t seem to be enough and cold creams make you look drenched in oil. This is where facial illuminators come in handy. A little glow (and not the sorts that make you look like you fell face first on a mound of glitter) is such a lovely thing in the winters. I used the Colorbar Spotlight Illuminating Lotion and this is how it fared.

In Detail Colorbar Spotlight Illuminating Lotion Review, Swatches and My Experience

The sturdy packaging looks very sleek and the dispenser is a retractable nozzle that makes the product look instantly travel-friendly. The lotion comes in a pump dispenser and it can be twisted up to bring out the nozzle. One gently pushing of the pump, and a pulse-sized amount of the product is out.

The first thing you notice is the slightly thick consistency – that I sometimes need to dilute using a really tiny dot of moisturiser. Then of course the obvious pink colour seems to look unnatural at first. But when you apply it, you realise that it is important for that rosy pink glow that is such a welcome thing for tired and dull skin.

The lotion is actually iridescent and not like those silvery white highlighters. If you have a neutral skin tone, this is a manna sent from heaven. But avoid if you have pink skin tone or oily skin – it will just make you look like you came out of drama rehearsals. The texture doesn’t feel sticky or greasy and absorbs into the skin almost immediately leaving a soft sheen behind. If you are not a fan of the matte look, this is a good product to try.

How I Use it

On its own I used it on areas I would highlight with an illuminating powder – that may not have staying power. Divide the dollop that comes with a single dispensing on the cheek bones, center of the forehead or the chin and you are sorted. Do not forget to blend thoroughly. I use it during the day time mixed with moisturiser so it doesn’t look too obvious.

Effects of Colorbar Spotlight Illuminating Lotion

If you have dull skin resulting from dryness, this product comes in handy. The metallic sheen gives a natural and healthy glow to the face – as long as you use only a little bit of the product. It absorbs easily and isn’t greasy at all. The staying power is pretty decent. Mixing it with foundation gives the skin a soft and subtle sheen.

Please do use very little amount – or else you may look sunburnt – or worse, REALLY dolled up. You can always build up the product later. As I learnt, too much of the product also makes the pores appear larger. The sheen is not chunky or visibly glittery, but more film-like.

The lotion is hydrating but not greasy. Under my foundation, it gives me a wonderful “lit from within” glow and can be mixed with moisturiser to make it look like a tinted moisturiser.

The benefits of this product differ from skin type and tone. It is not really a WOW product – I really think they should tone down the pink sheen and add a more golden glow to it.
