Too Faced Cocoa Contour Chiseled to Perfection Palette Review, Swatches: Too Faced has a range of Cocoa-infused products, one of which is their pressed-powder Cocoa Contour: Chiselled to Perfection Face Contouring and Highlighting Kit (often just called the ‘Cocoa Contour Kit’). There are two different skin-tone palettes (Light-Medium and Deep) with 4 shades and a contoured kabuki brush in each.

In detail Too Faced Cocoa Contour Chiseled to Perfection Palette Review, Swatches and my Experience

I do like there are only 4 shades; other highlighting palettes have been too intimidating, leaving me wondering where to start, being a contour novice. Sometimes too many options can be a bad thing.

The How To Glamour Guide was my favourite part; so easy to follow, and showed clearly what went where and when to stop. Even the most complicated ‘look’ was broken down in a way that means this is a palette accessible to everyone. Even with the most complicated look, it really did only take a few minutes. I did use other brushes besides the contour kabuki included, to get some sharper definition.

The shades are nice, complimentary and work well applying them. None of the colours felt too light or dark for me, and blended well with one another and my skin.

It’s not hard to remove, or makes the fine hairs on my face stick out, like some cream contours, and doesn’t have bad fallout on my face like some chalky powders I’ve tried in the past. Once it’s on, it stays put, but I’d suggest wearing it with a Setting Spray to prolong it to all-day wear.

I am noticing I use certain shades more than others (Medium Cocoa & Pop of Light), and will likely ‘hit pan’ on them before others. I would be nice to be able to re-order and replace individual pots, like some highlighting kits offer.

The Look Guide

There are 3 looks as part of the style guide included and I’ll be doing the most complicated; the Celebrity Contour, as I feel like the Guide should be able to walk me through it, despite my having 0 contour skills.

I teamed it up with my favourite liquid lipstick (Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in Dolce K). I didn’t wear foundation, concealer or primer, opting to give a basic look that can be worn on its own for an everyday, light look.

How to use Too Faced Cocoa Contour

There are a few ways to use the product, and they outline 3 in their style guide, which is a handy addition for those, like me, who have never contoured before. They include an angled kabuki brush, but if prefer more precise application, you could apply it with a finer brush (I’ve used a crease and eye-liner brush to much success).

Packaging and Formula

Too Faced is a brand synonyms with cute and hyper-feminine packaging and one again, they do not disappoint. It can be hard to make a chocolate-brown box girly, and yet they do, with touches of pink and a pretty gold bow, a theme which continues inside the packaging with a pink bow and branding around a generously sized mirror. All the shades are labelled in gold, clearly, and there is a recess for the contour angled buki brush they supply.

What impressed me most with the packaging was how they didn’t have the palette too chunky, despite having a brush stored in it. A lot of the palettes I’ve seen in the past that have recesses for lip-glosses / brushes / etc., seems to get very bulky.

The formula of the shades lives up to the hype; so buttery to the touch and they glide on effortlessly for good coverage. There is a bit of fallout left in the pans when you’re picking up pigment, but they work so well, it didn’t bother me. The pigmentation isn’t too heavy, and for some people, you may want to build them up, and they do build well.

The cocoa smell is amazing! ….. I can smell it even after I’ve applied it, and leaves with a luxuriously silky feel. My skin feels nourished, and when I wear it with a primer, foundation and finishing spray, it still feels weightless and non-cakey.

Will I Buy Again?

Yes! If I can buy it again, as it’s Limited Edition. Too Faced has said they are re-releasing some of their limited edition items (Too Faced Peach Palette), and adding some to their list of permanent items ( Too Faced Peanut Butter & Jelly Palette), so I do hope this has been popular enough to join that list.

MBF Advises

  1. Use the Style Guide: they have 3 very versatile looks that are simple to do
  2. Try using finer brushes for that defined contour
  3. Use primer and setting spray
  4. Work in small amounts, and build as needed
