In Detail MAC Black Tied Eyeshadow Review, Swatch, EOTD and My Experience

The shadow comes in a matte black base, now here is the twist, the matte black base on its own can be so hard to work with and the pretty silver sparkle in it. Black tied has sliver flecks of glitter that runs though the product, only problem is; if you are buying it for the glitter, it is a sheers waste – because the glitter just disappears. Although the sparkles can be clearly seen when viewing MAC Black Tied eyeshadow in the pan, the sparkles seem to disappear and just create a subtle shimmer instead of a frost to this eye shadow when worn and blended out. No point spending so much on an eye shadow that contains glitter for the glitter that doesn’t stay on. It’s not as black as carbon, but works if you want to soft black eyeliner and make it less harsh.

MAC Black Tied Eyeshadow Pigmentation

Black Tied seems to have a sort of top layer that you need to break through before it becomes really pigmented. The formula of M.A.C Velvet Eye Shadow – BlackTied is a little confused. The pigment is neither black nor grey – it is actually a dark charcoal with very dark grey with glitter in it. Black Tied is a glitter packed, deep black shade that is darker than Typographic and gives a slightly different effect from Carbon. It’s a medium black with a matte finish and silver sparkle is there only as a lure – it really does nothing to the product, sadly.

How I Use it

Beautiful as an eyeliner but not so dark when blended out! I use this on a concealer, though some might find it a little chalky – but it helps the product to stay and also enhances the colour. Also, the fall out is not much for a black eye shadow. And I wear it a little darker for special night outs by packing it lightly onto the eyelid area until I’ve built up the desired intensity.

Effects

The glitter you see in the pan with this one does translate to the lid if you pack the color on. However, that glitter does tend to travel to the face throughout the evening (that’s the only complaint I had with this one). I especially like to deepen the crease with Black Tied, as I find it much easier to work with in terms of blending than Carbon.

• Not too dark – so great for those who are entering the world of smokey eyes.
• Doubles up as eye-liner

• A tad difficult to blend – tends to flake during application.
• No ingredient list

MBF Advises

If you want the sparkles in the eye shadow to show up for a really glam evening look, then make sure you have a damp brush. I find the best way to do this is to load up the brush with shadow, then use a squirt of thermal water onto the loaded up brush.

Also, pair up this shade with an electric blue eyeliner to create a stunning two-toned effect. Like this picture below

Rating

3/5 (I was looking for a darker colour pigmentation; and the claim that the glitter lasts on the eyes was not true at all!)

    • Thanks for reading, Swathi 🙂

I’d like to reassure you that the glitter hardly stays! Forget travelling to the face. So you could go ahead and try it. Why not visit the M.A.C store and ask them to do a little Black Tied makeup on your eyes. Have a look at it after an hour and only once you are convinced, buy it.
