Makeup Revolution Hot Smoked Redemption Palette Review, Swatches: Hey guys, we all have heard about the brand Makeup Revolution. It is a UK based makeup brand which is known for making decent quality makeup and their rates are really affordable. I actually used to use this brand a lot when I was just out of college and presently I have been rediscovering my love for it. I had ordered a bunch of MUR products a while back and have been using quite a lot of them.

Makeup Revolution Hot Smoked Redemption Palette Review, Swatches

The MUR Hot Smoked palette was allegedly released as a dupe or Urban Decay Smoked Eyeshadow Palette. However we all know that Urban Decay discontinued their Smoked palette. But this one by MUR is still available everywhere. I do not have the Urban Decay smoked palette so I cannot compare them side by side. But I have been using this palette very often. Hence let’s dive in to the review below and explore more about this product.

In fact, I buy all my MUR products directly from their website because the products cost the least on their website. For example, this palette is priced in India at INR 1050/- however I got it from their official website where I had to pay only INR 331/- (plus shipping). I purchase a bunch of products at one time and the shipping comes to around INR 500/- which is quite fine.

Makeup Revolution Hot Smoked Redemption Palette Review, Swatches packaging

In Detail Makeup Revolution Hot Smoked Redemption Palette Review, Swatches and My Experience

Makeup Revolution is known to have this really basic plastic packaging on most of their products. Its not a very strong or sturdy material hence, you have to be careful that you do not drop the palette on a hard surface. Also, after a while, even the slightest scratches on the surface because 100X visible. So I am not a fan of the packaging definitely. Also, it comes with a sponge tip applicator which I do not use like ever. It just sits there, chilling.

There are 12 shades in the palette consisting of metallics and mattes. To be precise, there are 7 metallic eyeshadows and the remaining 5 are all mattes. The shades in this palette are beautiful and very usable for everyone. If you’re into colourful smoky eyes makeup looks, this is a great palette to play with. However, I feel some shades in the palette are more stiff than the others. Some are super nice and buttery while some are not. So there is a lot of inconsistencies in the formulas of the shades. We will talk about each of the shades individually below.

Speaking of the pigmentation, I feel the pigmentation is quite decent. Its not super intense, but not very sheer either. Some shades are definitely more pigmented that the others. However the good thing is, all the shades are readily buildable. They also layer well.

Makeup Revolution Hot Smoked Redemption Palette Individual Shades Description

The palette has no names to the shades. So we are going to number the shades to make it easy for reference when I describe them individually. I really wish MUR started naming the shades. In my mind, when eyeshadow shades have names in a palette, it just adds so much authenticity.

Makeup Revolution Hot Smoked Redemption Palette Review, Swatches Shade Name number

1st Shade – This is a creamy white matte eyeshadow. The pigmentation is quite sheer and I felt this was very stiff in the pan. It was very difficult to get the product on a brush. Moreover, even with fingers, this gave a very sheer colour on the skin. I do not use this shade as an eyeshadow. I just use it sometimes to set my eye primer over the lids and that’s it. This and the 2nd shade are kind of the lest used shades in my palette.

2nd Shade – Its a creamy n*ude shade. Again with very sheer pigmentation and quite stiff in the pan. This one also had some major fall outs. I do not use this shade really. It is basically the sheerest shade in this palette.

3rd Shade – This is an medium deep silver grey metallic eyeshadow shade. Its very pigmented and offers 95% opaque coverage in a single swipe. This shade is buttery smooth in texture and is very easy to apply with a brush or finger tip. However it does have a ton of fall out, so you need to be careful while using it.

4th Shade – This is very deep smoked out brown with a matte finish. This has average pigmentation. it feels smooth in the pan, but the application is quite patchy and this shade does not bend well. You really have to spend a good amount of time trying to blend this out.

5th Shade – It is a matte black shade with really sparse fine silver shimmer particles in it. It has better pigmentation than the rest also more smooth. It offers 80% opaque coverage in a single swipe. Upon blending it out, this stays more pigmented on the original area of application.

6th Shade – This is a pure bronze shade with an extreme metallic finish. This shade is intensely pigmented with 100% colour pay off in a single swipe. Also, this blends out super nicely. The shade picks up well on a brush or you can use finger tips to apply the shade. It looks amazing all over the eyelids just by itself as well. However, the only downside is, it has significant fall outs.

7th Shade – This one is a gorgeous aubergine with a metallic finish. Very pigmented, this shade offers 90% opaque coverage in single swipe. Its smooth and picks up well on a brush. This is my 2nd favourite shade in this palette because I really love shades of violets.

8th Shade – Its a lovely cobalt blue shade with a metallic finish. This again is smooth and easy to work with. It offers 90% opaque coverage in a single swipe with some amount of fall outs. It is easy to apply with a brush or finger tips.

9th Shade – This is my favourite shade in this palette. It is a gorgeous deep emerald green colour with a metallic finish. Its super smooth and buttery as well as offers 95% opaque coverage in a single swipe. It picks up quite well on the brush, however there is some amount of fall out as well.

10th Shade – This is an ash grey colour with a very metallic finish. This again has intense pigmentation with 95% opaque coverage in a single swipe. It is very buttery and applies well on the lids with a brush or finger tips. The shade blends out well too. But it does have some fall outs as well.

11th Shade – This is a matte mauve-violet colour. This shade has poor pigmentation. Offers very sheer coverage. In fact feels quite stiff in the pan. Upon blending, it sheers out a lot. Not a fan of this shade.

12th Shade – The final shade in the palette is a violet with a characteristic sheen to it. Its not metallic, but has this really subtle yet nice sheen going on. This shade is decently pigmented with 90% opaque coverage in a single swipe. It applies well and is easy to blend out. Try to pack this shade on the lids rather than shading, it works well that way.

Overall Verdict

This palette is only good for its metallic shades because the mattes do not perform at all for me. I think the metallics are actually really good if you’re into such shades. The metallic shadows have a staying power of around 4 hours which is quite good. I mean for £ 4.00 this is a real good value for money. If you’re a beginner and want to play with some metallics for smoky eyes, do try this palette. Also I would advise you guys to purchase the palette during discounts to save even more money.

  1. The blue, green and purple shades look really nice ? I wish they had better mattes, it would have been a great palette. I have used the urban decay smoked palette and I feel that was just a little better than this. In fact I feel the colours in this palette are more vibrant ??
