Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara Review, Swatches, Demo: Hey guys. So weekend is here and I thought I’d review a dramatic mascara for you. Because weekends are meant for parties and drama 😛 I got this Maybelline mascara almost 2 months back as soon as it was launched in the Indian market and have been using it very often since then. In fact, I went to Bangalore this month and this was the only mascara I carried with me. I usually do not wear mascara unless I am dressing up. However the past few months, I have been a bit of mascara junkie. 😀 Therefore, let’s get into the review and explore more about this amazing looking mascara from Maybelline, New York.

In Detail Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara Review, Swatches, Demo and My Experience

The Maybelline Falsies mascara comes in a waterproof formula as well non waterproof formula. I purchased the waterproof one. In India it is available in only one shade i.e. “Very Black”. However in USA, it is available in 3 shades – Brownish Black, Very Black and Blackest Black. I have to say it is slightly more costly in Singapore and Australia while its cost is almost exactly the same in US, UK and India.

It comes in a stunning looking Red-Black-Pink tube with a reflective metallic finish. The packaging is quite unique and sleek. It closes with a lock so its pretty safe to travel with. The wand is quite long and has a flexible rubberised applicator head. Now Maybelline says that the applicator has “specialised push up cup brush” as you can see in the photo below.

However when I take a close up of my applicator, I do not notice such a pattern. May be all this pattern got buried in the product coating my applicator. So may be I’ll wash the applicator, and take a pic. Give me a second…. So I just went and washed the applicator head of my mascara wand with coconut oil then under water. Finally I cleaned it up as much as I can with some tissue papers. As you can see below, the pattern in real is exactly like Maybelline mentions on the packaging. 🙂

PS. I am a wee bit obsessed with such tiny details (If wee bit means completely! 😀 )

How I Use it

My lashes are not poker straight naturally and have a slight curl to them. Indian ladies are blessed with fairly long lashes and hence, my lashes are fairly long I would say. Usually before applying a mascara, I like to curl my lashes a bit. So I applied this mascara with wiggling motions. After about 45 seconds, first coat was still wet. I went ahead and applied the second coat. This took almost 2 minutes to dry completely with my fanning air on my face with my hands.

Effects

Immediately after the first coat I was impressed by the volume and length this mascara gave me. After the second coats, I was fluttering my lashes like a dramaqueen! It adds a serious drama to my lashes. The bristles do make my lashes look super thick. The bristles are such that they load a significant amount of product on the lashes due to which lashes appear super voluminous and spidery. It holds up my curls pretty well though not exactly a 100%. In fact, I can just use this mascara, and flaunt a no eyeliner look because this baby doll is amazing.

My friend uses the non waterproof version of this mascara and according to her, the non waterproof version does not really hold the curls very well. Also, she added that the non waterproof version does transfer around a bit.

Formula, Texture, Staying Power

This mascara has a very wet formula. Its creamy at the same time. Because of the wet formula, lashes appear really black. However, such wet formulas are known to weigh down the lashes slightly and make them fall in your vision area. Therefore if you have very straight lashes, make sure to curl them nicely before applying this mascara or else your lashes might weigh down. Also, this is not a curling mascara so it is not going to provide you a curling effect on its own. I don’t personally face this problem because my lashes are naturally curly however my ladies with straight lashes are requested to curl their lashes before putting this on.

The mascara is not exactly clumpy. It does not really separate out my lashes either. The applicator brush is such that it does not grip the lashes enough to comb it through completely. Hence, the product gets deposited on the lashes and overall situation gives a really voluminous and spidery effect.

The mascara lasts on my lashes till I want to take it off. It never smudges around or transfers. However, you have to be careful till it dries. Because the formula is super wet, it might transfer around until its completely dry which usually takes around 2-3 minutes under normal room temperature. I usually give it a good 5 minutes rest and re-check my makeup just to make sure it hasn’t transfered around.

Overall Verdict

I find this mascara really good. In fact I reach out for this every time I want my lashes to look long, voluminous and dramatic. And of course I’ve been using it a lot so that I can review it for you guys. This mascara according to me will be perfect if you naturally have slightly curly lashes. However if you have very straight lashes, this might weigh down your lashes unless you curl them really well beforehand.

How I Remove this Waterproof Mascara

Taking off waterproof mascara without tugging on lashes is a serious job. I tried my normal makeup removers but they didn’t seem to dissolve this mascara from my lashes. Finally, I took some coconut oil and very gently worked it on my lashes. The process is quite messy to be very honest. Then I took some tissue (the really soft ones) and wiped my eye area. I have to repeat the process twice in order to remove the mascara completely from my lashes. In fact, you can use baby oil or any other oil which suits you to remove it. The only condition is, be very gentle and take your time.

To avoid all this, you can use the non waterproof version of this mascara which is in fact quite easy to remove with any normal makeup remover.

Demo Details

In the demo below, I have absolutely no makeup on. Its only the mascara on my lashes. I know some of you ladies like to wear only mascara as eye makeup. Hence, I thought it would be great just to demo the mascara without any eye makeup, base or anything whatsoever. Also note, that on my bottom lashes, I have only one coat and I did not apply the second coat on my bottom lashes.

MBF Advises

1. Make sure to brush your lashes enough with the bristles while applying the mascara otherwise the lashes will start clumping together.
2. Always curl the lashes beforehand before applying this mascara.
3. Make sure to give it sometime to let it dry completely before doing anything else.
4. If you want to follow my way of using an oil to remove this mascara, please use a tissue paper which is very soft. Usually you will get these in any supermarket.
5. I know I keep repeating this, but it is very important to take off your makeup completely everyday before going to bed. Do not forget to moisturise your skin after washing your face.
