Maybelline Fashion Brow Cream Pencil Brown & Dark Gray Review, Swatches: Hey guys, how are you doing? So the weekend is almost here and I can’t wait already! My husband actually took a 3 day weekend leave from his excruciatingly busy schedule at the hospital and I can’t wait for tomorrow already 😀 So Maybelline New York has released a bunch of brow products recently and I got my hands on all of them almost 10 days back. Since then, I have been wearing and testing them out. I went and bought both the shades in the fashion brow cream pencil because I wasn’t sure which shade would work better on me. So I thought let me get them both and check since they were very inexpensive anyway. Hence, to know my experience and explore more about this new launch by Maybelline, please keep on reading 🙂

In Detail Maybelline Fashion Brow Cream Pencil Brown & Dark Gray Review, Swatches and My Experience
These pencils come with a transparent plastic cap. Not much to talk about the packaging here because these are pretty basic. However these pencils are sharpenable pencils. They do not have twist up mechanism hence pretty cumbersome to sharpen them up. Also, they do not come with a sharpener. Therefore, you will have to buy one separately in case you don’t have a fitting one. Also, I would mention that the pencil does not need super frequent sharpening so its okay to travel with it for short trips. I really appreciate the fact that maybelline has mentioned the detailed ingredient list on the transparent plastic film in which it comes packaged. Once you remove the package, there is really not much written on the pencil itself apart from its name and brand logo.
My brows are already pretty thick. I manage to skip a brow product sometimes and just use some clear gel/wax to set them. However I do like to use a brow pencil for the head and tail of my brows in order to make them look fuller and more defined. Also, lining the margins and filling the brows lightly does wonders even if you have thick brows.
Formula, Texture, Pigmentation
These pencils have a rather dense formula with a surprisingly smooth texture. They don’t glide on creamy and buttery. They don’t feel dry or rough, but they aren’t super creamy either. They are in between creamy & dry with somewhat more inclination towards the creamy side. This sort of texture is amazing for brow products because they don’t get smudged easily when rubbed and stay put without moving around much. I need to apply some pressure to get the pigmentation show up nicely on my skin. In fact, I guess thats actually very convenient because you can control how much you want to apply. In case you want some natural effect you can go light or if you wish for some bold drama, you can go heavy handed. They are decently pigmented however like I said, you need to apply some pressure to show some significant pigment on the skin.
Maybelline Fashion Brow Cream Pencil Brown
This shade is a medium-deep burnt sienna brown. When I saw it the first time, I was not sure if this would work on my medium skin tone and dark hair. However to my surprise this works pretty well. It gives me the most natural looking fuller brows. If I were to choose between the gray and brown shade for everyday wear, I would choose the brown one. Even if your skin tone is lighter than mine and you have slightly less dark hair, this shade would work perfectly.
Maybelline Fashion Brow Cream Pencil Dark Gray
Dark gray is again a medium deep charcoal gray. I was 80% sure that this would be my perfect shade and I was not completely wrong. This shade gives my brows a more bold and defined look. When I fill the ends of my brows with this and lightly fill them up, they look really edgy and defined.
Brown or Dark Gray?
If I want to give my brows more natural effect like if I am going out on a dinner date with husband or there are guests coming over for a house party, I go for the brown shade because it makes my brows look fuller naturally. My brows look softly touched and its difficult for someone to make out that I am actually wearing a brow product. But if you look at before and after photos, you can definitely notice the difference. As far as the dark gray shade is concerned, I use this for the occasions when I go for more glam makeup where I want everything on point and well demarcated. It makes my brows look bold and defined.
Wearability, Staying Power
Both these shades wear well on me for 8+ hours without budging or moving. Even if I get a little sweaty, my brows do not ever get messed up. The pigment does not move around or transfer anywhere around. It stays where it is supposed to stay. Throughout the wear time, I don’t feel any discomfort whatsoever. So I would say I have no complains here.
If you’re looking for a budget friendly brow pencil which does the job well, you should totally check out these brow pencils by Maybelline, New York. They work efficiently and I have been loving them so far. I have talked about both the shades in detail above. So you can choose which shade do you want to go for. Personally I love them both for different occasions. For natural as well as softer look, I prefer the brown shade. For bold and defined look I use the dark gray shade. I know we don’t get Anastasia here in India, but we’ll have to do with Maybelline till then. 😀
Please Note: In my swatches, I have swiped the pencils 4 times over. I never smooth out the pigment so what you see here is what you will get when you purchase this pencil. My pictures are all real time and I don’t edit them to change colour. So the colours are true as well.

CONs of Maybelline Fashion Brow Cream Pencil
1. These are sharpenable pencils. So you need to get a fitting sharpener separately as they don’t come with one.
2. I wish there was a spoolie at the rear end.
3. I wish they were slightly more pigmented because when you apply a lot of pressure on your brow hair, there is a possibility of pulling off a couple of hairs during application.
1. If you’re looking for an everyday wear brow product, check these out. They are inexpensive and do the job well.
2. Always use a spoolie to groom the brows after using any sort of brow product.
3. Go light handed with light strokes at first and then increase pressure to get more pigment only in the areas where you need it.
4. Go along the natural margin of the brows, if you go outside those margins, brows do not look as natural or defined. However if you are doing an artistic makeup, halleluiah baby! Do what you want! Create and inspire 🙂
(extra marks given for making it super affordable)
