Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon Review, Swatches: Hey guys, so Anastasia Beverly Hills pretty much revolutionised the makeup industry with the iconic Anastasia EyeBrow Pomade which till date remains one of the best sellers from ABH. It is quite difficult or/and expensive for beauties living outside USA to get their hands on ABH products. Hence, our favourite drugstore makeup brand Maybelline, New York decided to come up with a saviour product which works very much like a pomade but this one is in a crayon form. Really innovative and hats off to whoever came up with this idea. Because trust me, this makes things so much more easier. Anyways, moving on today I will be talking about my experience with this product. I have been trying it since 15 days now and I am ready to talk about everything I felt about it.

Maybelline has a product called Maybelline Eyestudio Brow Drama Pomade Crayon in the USA, UK, Australia and Europe markets. That product is different from the Fashion Brow Pomade launched here. I compared the ingredients in both these products and they are completely different. So my ladies out there in USA, UK, Europe and Australia please know that I am going to talk about the “Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon” which is currently launched in some Asian markets only.

In Detail Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon Review, Swatches and My Experience

The Maybelline brow pomade crayon comes in a basic stout crayon packaging. It is a twist up & retractable crayon which is amazing. However the tip of the crayon is quite thick. Hence I can’t do the margins of my brows directly with the crayon. I also love the fact that maybelline has included a detailed ingredient list on the outer plastic covering of the packaging. The plastic cover is to be completely removed in order to use the crayon. So on the downside, you just get to look at the ingredient list once. You can’t refer to it once you’ve opened up the packaging. PS. In my case, there was a sticker on top of the plastic cover of my crayon which basically kept some of the ingredients hidden. 🙁

The pomade has basically no smell to it which is great because who wants a scented product on their brows anyways. The texture of the pomade is super duper soft and smooth. I am not sure if there is silicones present in it, but it does feel slightly silicon-y though. When I swatch it, it does not deposit too much pigment on the skin which is good because we can control the depth of definition we want to give the brows.

What is a Pomade?

A pomade basically is a soft wax which is used to set and style hair. It has been in use in the beauty industry since ages. It was earlier used to set moustaches, beard and side bums. The idea is to make these hair look thick, sleek and shiny. Oh, and it is still used in hair styling by some high fashion hair stylists who work on binary level details of hair styles of models. In the past few years, a “pomade” is pretty much used synonymously with a tinted soft brow wax. Anastasia Beverly Hills deserves a lot of credit in making this famous. Also, the brow pomades are usually formulated to give a matte appearance unlike their ancestors. The maybelline brow pomade is pretty unique because it comes in a crayon form.

There are 6 shades available in the asian markets including India as of now. These are:

The first two shades are available in India. The bottom 4 shades are available in Singapore and Philippines market. I got the deep brown shade because my brows are almost black if not the deepest brown. If you have dark brow hairs, definitely go for the deep brown shade. Soft brown shade will suit ladies with soft brown brow hair who have very light skin tones.

How I Use it

As I mentioned above, because of the thick tip of the pomade crayon, I can’t work this on the margins of my bros. Hence, I use a brow pencil to define the margins of my brows lightly or you can use a sharp flat angled brush with this pomade. Then I fill my brows with this pomade. My brows are pretty thick naturally and on a daily basis I don’t need to fill my brows. I just touch up around the edges and that’s it. However when I go for some serious glam makeup, I do fill my brows.

This product basically works like a tinted soft wax. It sets the brow hair and fills up any sparse areas. I do advise going in with soft feathery strokes. Be gentle and build up the product if you need. Do not apply a lot of pressure when you’re doing your brows.

Effects

The pomade works really well in filling up my brows. It also sets my brow hair and prevents them from feathering out. It does not give a super dramatic look in a few strokes. It makes my brows look more full, defined and set. However, you can build up the drama by building up the pigment on the brows. Just have to go over and over with light strokes till you get the desired pigment. Make sure not to apply a lot of pressure if you want it to look naturally defined. The product lasts on my brows for 6 to 7 hours before starting to fade. If you have oily skin or combination skin, this might start fading sooner.

Overall Verdict

I have been really enjoying using this brow pomade. I basically wish that this shade deep brown was 2 or 3 shades deeper because I honestly feel that dark hair like mine would love some deeper shades. So in a nutshell, the deep brown isn’t deep enough if your brow hair are pitch black. But still you can pull the shade “deep brown” off if you use very light feathery strokes. I am happy with the purchase overall. But I do think that Maybelline should have come up with more deeper shades in this range.

4. Its made in China and the details on the bottom are written in Chinese. 😮 Maybelline my darling, not a lot of Indians understand Chinese!

1. Line your brows with a brow pencil. I talked about the new Maybelline Fashion Brow Cream Pencil a few days back. Thats the pencil I’ve been using this with.
2. Use light feather like strokes to achieve a naturally thick brow look.
3. You can also use this via a brush.
