Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette Review, Swatches

Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette Review, Swatches: As a Too Faced fanatic, I’m not going to lie; been excited to get my hands on this one, since it’s so hard to get. Too Faced has a range of scented products; their Cocoa range was so well received they released the Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Collection, in 2015, as a Limited Edition product, and rapidly sold out.

It hit Australia in March of 2015 and I was able to (finally) get my eager little hands on it January of this year. Unfortunately eBay has been flooded with fakes, with potentially harmful ingredients, so that’s something to be aware of if trying to buy one. I got mine with proof of purchase from Mecca Maxima.

The good news is that it IS being re-released December 2016, for those who missed out first time, or have hit pan and want to get another. It will be part of a new peach range, including a blush and highlight palette!

In Detail Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette Review, Swatches and my Experience

To start off, I was a bit surprised how lacking in “peach” a peach themed palette was; it’s mostly browns, with 3 purples, 3 pinks and a green thrown in there. Only two colours in the palette are what I consider a ‘peach’: Peaches ‘N’ Cream and Candied Peach.

There was a lot of hype around this palette, and even after playing with it, it’s hard to say if it lives up to it. On the one hand, the smell is amazing (yum!), and they really did get in a wide array of colours in, for an 18 shadow palette. On the other hand…. Some of the shades didn’t perform well at all, on both finger swatch and brush application and require some building; White Peach, Just Peachy, Charmed I’m Sure, Candied Peach, Delectable, Georgia, Summer Yum, Talk Derby To Me, which is disappointing as that is 8 out of 18 shades (almost half!). Seems like Too Faced missed the mark on this.

The shadows do have some fallout in the pan, and fallout on application on the face, if you get too enthusiastic with the brush. I found that I had to work slower and with smaller amounts of product than I normally would with a shadow, or I’d wind up with them all over my cheeks.

Out of the 18 shades, they have 7 matte shades (White Peach, Peaches ‘n’ Cream, Georgia, Charmed I’m sure, and Delectable), which is a fair amount for a shared palette; a white, a cream, a pink, three browns and a purple. I would have liked there to be a matte black shade, but Tempting is pretty with its gold flecks. Important thing to note; Tempting can stain, and found it left a stain on my arm after swatching (yikes!).

The Look

The style guide details 3 different ‘looks’ you can do, and has a mix of daytime and night-time looks, and I felt that I wouldn’t be doing the palette justice with simply one, so I did two for you guys!

I used the “Peaches & Cream” look for a warm pink daytime look, with a primer (Napoleon Peris Auto Pilot) and light BB cream (Too Faced Airbrushed in Vanilla Glow), and “Southern Belle” for an evening look, teamed with mascara (Max Factor in MasterclassMax in Black) and lipstick (Kylie Jenner in Dolce K)

How to use the Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Collection

In order to apply the Sweet Peach shades, you’ll need to either use eyeshadow brushes (or your finger, if you’re like me, and enjoy pressing on with a finger on occasion).

When applying, as I mentioned before, there can be a fair amount of powder fallout, so it’s best to keep to small strokes, small amounts of product, and build it slowly.

There is a lot of range when it comes to whole-face or eyelid-only primers, which are entirely optional, but can aid in keeping pores unblocked, and giving your look lasting-power. You can top with Setting Spray, to make your face melt-free, and again there is a glut of quality products in the market to choose from.

Packaging and Formula

This box is beyond adorable; three rows of juicy little raised peaches on the front of the palette, gold lettering and an embossed pastel peach. I am getting some strong recollections of the tins of mixed fruit bonbons my grandmother used to give out for scraped knees, and the children’s makeup from the 90’s. It’s definitely in line with their brand; cute, sweet and hints of nostalgia. They’ve done scented palettes before, and with great reception, since it’s something quite unique to them. It’s a risk to break away from the black, unscented packaging, and some have come out against it, claiming it’s ‘juvenile’ and ‘too girly’, which I suppose to some it might be, but it is a style you’ll either love or hate. I for one, love it.

They include a very generously sized mirror; my only issue is that the lettering on the inside of the palette obstructs the middle of the bottom half of the mirror. All the shades are labelled in luxurious gold capital letters, clearly. The tin isn’t very thick, which is handy for storage, but the downside with so many shades is the size of the rest of the palette; as cute as this might be on summer holiday, I’ll be leaving it out of my travel bag in favour of one of their small palettes, which are about half the size in the length.

The scent isn’t what I’d say is like fresh peaches; it’s more like a peach perfume, or peach sweets. The smell lingers after application, but fades after about an hour or so. They wear so lightly and feel luxurious on, with no gritty feeling, even from the highly glittery ones like Tempting, Talk Derby To Me, and Candied Peach.

Pros of Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette

  1. Great smell
  2. Cute packaging
  3. Good variety of colours
  4. Buttery texture
  5. Great for summer looks

Cons of Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette

  1. Not very travel-friendly sized
  2. Has a shade that stains
  3. Powder fallout
  4. Pricey
  5. Nearly half the shadows don’t apply well

Overall Verdict

If you’re a collector of Too Faced, it’s an adorable addition to the scented palette collection, and has some nice shades, however I wouldn’t classify this as a ‘must buy’, and more as a good supplementary palette to use with another, for a cute pop of peach or purple, if you’re prepared to build them. The quality wasn’t there in some shades that I’ve had with other Too Faced products, in almost half the shades.

There isn’t much in the way of actual peach colours, being mostly browns and purples, which does make it more flexible in looks you can do, but might be a let-down to those hoping for a true peach palette.

If you’re looking to only buy one palette, this may or may not be the one for you. For me, though, it’s not a stand-alone. I don’t hate it, but I’m not in love with it. I’m a comfortable state of like, and can see myself reaching for it again, for shades like Bellini, Bless Her Heart, and Talk Derby to Me, and teaming it with one of my stronger palettes.

Will I Buy Again?

Honestly… I am on the fence with this one. It’s cute, and in the pan, the shades look scrumptious… but so many of them didn’t apply well. They are re-releasing it as part of a peach range for summer so it will make it easier to re-purchase if I do.

MBF Advises

  1. Build pigment gradually to avoid powder fallout
  2. Start with a primer to prolong wear
  3. Buy with proof of purchase to avoid fakes with harmful ingredients if outside official channels
