Absolute New York ICON Pro Eyeshadow Palette Sahara Sunset Review, Swatches: Hi guys. I’m back with a huge eyeshadow palette. I am a big fan of eyeshadow palettes, especially the large ones with a huge variety of shades. They make me feel like a MUA and is convenient because in most cases all the required shades would be in my hand at once. I have always been a fan of the Morphe palettes and when I stumbled upon this palette while browsing through nykaa, I couldn’t help but notice the striking similarity between these two.

In Detail Absolute New York ICON Pro Eyeshadow Palette Sahara Sunset Review, Swatches and My Experience

The palette came in a basic black cardboard packaging and the palette was safely packed in a bubble wrapping. The palette is a black one with a transparent cover. It is light weight and thin, and to be honest the packaging feels a little flimsy. Needless to say, it does not come with a mirror of its own nor does it have an applicator. But at this price point it wouldn’t be fair to ask for a luxurious packaging.

The product quality is all what matters to me as long as drugstore products are concerned. The eyeshadows have a weird smell to them and I found it quite disturbing as I am not a huge fan of added perfumes.

The palette has 35 shades arranged in five rows and all of them are different shades of brown, orange, peach or cream. A few shades looked same and I was pretty disappointed to see that there were a lot of warm toned browns with little or no difference. There are quite a lot of nude shades too, for every skin tone. Since the palette has many brown shades ranging from light brown to the darkest one, all skin tones will find a transition shade for them in this palette.

The palette consists of both matte and shimmer shades. The shimmers are extremely smooth and pigmented. They perform best when applied using fingers and glide on effortlessly to give a beautiful finish. I am impressed with the shimmer shades and love them to bits. Now coming to the matte shades, not all of them impressed me.the pale shades were a bit chalky and needed a lot of swipes to actually show up whereas the oranges and browns performed quite well. They look better on the eyelids than in the swatches.

Now let’s see each row in detail

Row 1:

There are two shimmer shades and five matte shades

Absolute New York ICON Pro Eyeshadow Palette Sahara Sunset Review, Swatches 1

The first shade is a chalky off -white shade which can be used to set your concealer base or as a highlight shade. The second shade is a peachy shimmery shade which is smooth and creamy and quite pigmented. The next shade is a peach matte eyeshadow which is less chalky compared to the first shade and looks pretty on fair skin tones when used alone. The next shade is a light brown shade which can be used as a transition shade for light skin tones and as nude for medium skin tones. The fifth shade is a cool toned taupe shade. Then there is a reddish-brown shade and the last shade is a golden-brown shimmery shade which looks beautiful on warm skin tones.

Row 2:

This row has four shimmer shades and three matte shades

The first two shades are icy pink shimmer shades which look very similar to each other except for the fact that the second one is a tad peachier than the first. They are smooth and pigmented and can be used to create cut crease looks or as a topper. The next shade is a warm light brown shade and the next two shades are shimmers. The first one is a light orange and the second one is  dark orange. Personally, I love both of these and I will look good on most skin tones. The last two shades are orange shades.one is a true orange shade and the next one is a dark orange. Both look really pretty and can be combined with one of the warm shimmer shades to create a festive look.

Row 3:

It has five shimmer shades and two matte shades.

The first shade is a champagne shimmer which is my perfect highlighter shade.it looks beautiful as a brow bone highlighter and I use it in the inner corners of the eye too.it is too beautiful and looks good when applied alone for a nude shimmery look for fair to medium skin tones. The next shade is a cream matte shade which is chalky like most of the lighter matte shades in this palette. The third shade is a reddish-brown shade which looks similar to the second last shade in the first row. This one is a slightly deeper version of the other one. The next four shades are reddish brown shimmer shades. The fourth and fifth shades look so similar and are light brown reddish shimmers. The next one Is a rusty shimmer shade which looks pretty on the eyes and gives it a bright pop. The last shade is a brownish gold shimmer shade which is more towards the brown side.

Row 4:

It has two shimmer shades and five matte shades

The first shade is a baby pink matte shade which never shows up on my medium skin but fair beauties can rock this shade for an everyday look. The second shade is reddish brown one which is similar to the other two red toned browns I mentioned before. The next shade is a brown shade which I use to deepen my crease. This is pigmented and blends well. The fourth shade is a brown shimmer which will look bomb on dusky beauties. The next two shades are cool toned browns which are quite dark and can be used as transition shades for deeper skin tones. The last shade is a cool toned deep brown shimmer which is again perfect for dusky skin.

Row 5:

It has four shimmers and three matte shades

Absolute New York ICON Pro Eyeshadow Palette Sahara Sunset Review, Swatches 5

The first shade is a warm toned cream shade which can be a nude for fair to medium skin tones. Unlike other light matte shades in this palette this one Is not chalky. The next one is a dark cool toned shade which does not blend well on my skin. Its rather patchy and gives a muddy look to my eyes. The next four shades are shimmers and all of them are different shades of brown from which you can choose your favourite one. The last shade is a deep brown shade which looks almost black on my eyes.

Like I mentioned earlier all the shimmers perform extremely good for a drugstore palette and the mattes were quite hard to swatch but turned up quite well on my eyelids on top of a concealer base. I highly recommend priming your eyes before applying these eyeshadows for better pigmentation and long stay with little fallout. These shades do have fallouts and I always tap my brush after picking up product. It’s always better to bake undereyes before applying these shadows so that the bake will catch the fallouts and can be dusted off after application.

The colour range did not impress me. I felt a lot of shades are being repeated and there are very less vibrant matte shades, they could add a fun coral shade, a deep red, maroon or at least a matte black shade. But this palette has just a couple of brown mattes of varying intensity and a few other shades out of which only two were different, the oranges. The shimmer shades like I mentioned quite a few times, look beautiful. They are so metallic and not at all like they look in the pans. On swatching they transform into these metallic shadows that look beaming. The only downside to the shimmer shades is that there are repeated shades which I absolutely completely hate in a palette.

This palette is pretty good for the price paid and ill consider this a hit.it has 35 pans and costs 1600 which makes it about 45 rupees for a shadow which is pretty good since the pans are medium sized. I feel this palette can be a good option for blooming MUAs as this is a versatile n*de palette that can be used on a variety of skin tones. There are pretty good shimmer shades which can be used to create festive looks too. I mainly use this palette for the shimmers and I am in love with them

I prime my lids with a cream or liquid concealer and set it with one of the light matte shades. Then I apply the transition shade and any one of the matte browns to fill the eyelid depending on the look I’m going for. If it’s for any special occasion I apply the shimmers with my fingers to the centre of my eyelids which instantly brightens the whole look up.

These last on me for five to six hours without an eye primer or setting spray (note that I did use concealer as a base) and lasted for more when I used a setting spray. The shades don’t crease and do layer well. You can slowly build to get the intensity you want and it will not look patchy. These shadows are light weight and do not weigh your eyelids down. Eyeliners and kajals can be applied on top easily. You will have to use a mascara or dust your eyelashes because the shimmers and the lighter matte shades fall on the eyelashes and make them look dusty.

Overall, I quite like this palette and I think it is extremely good for the price paid.it is available at discounts on amazon and costed 1100 last time I checked. If you are someone who loves natural eye looks and go for an occasional festive one this is all you will need.is it good for travelling? Absolutely now. This will crumble and break for sure as it was already a bit damaged in transit despite the bubble wrapping. besides, this is too big to carry with you while travelling anyway.

  4. Affordable and has sufficient quantity for the price paid

Cons of Absolute New York ICON Pro Eyeshadow Palette Sahara Sunset

  1. Repeatition of shades
  2. Instead of the million brown shades they could add deeper shades like a red, maroon or most importantly a matte black
  3. Some shades have quite a bit of fallout
  4. The lighter matte shades are chalky and do not show up on deeper skin tones
  5. Palette is too fragile and not travel friendly

MBF Advises

  1. Use a concealer or eyeshadow primer before applying these eyeshadows. Otherwise they will not show up properly and will look dusty
  2. Either apply foundation after eye makeup or bake your eyes so that the fallout does not damage your makeup look
  3. If your using shimmers, fingers are the best way to go about. That ensures maximum pigmentation.
  4. Blend the shadows well. Take little by little and slowly build it up
  5. Apply mascara after you use eyeshadow so that your eyebrows don’t look dusty.
