I had decided to pass on it and get something else instead. But as time passed and I saw so many people using it and the BEAUTIFUL looks they were creating, I was slowly warming up to it to the point where I decided I couldn’t live without it anymore! Let me tell you all about this amazing palette! Hence, here is Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette Review, Swatches.

How to Use

Modern Renaissance is meant to be used like any other eyeshadow palette. I like to use a primer underneath, to make the colors pop more, and also to make the makeup last longer, as I have SUPER OILY eyelids. What I do is apply my primer and then set it with a light later of Tempera, the light beige shade, to get a nice clean canvas to work with. Because I love the cranberry tones in this palette, I usually use them in my outer v. The looks you can create with this palette are endless! You can do as neutral or as vampy as you would like. This palette is good for daytime lunches to nighttime glamour weddings!

In Detail Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette Review, Swatches and my experience

I’ve always been a fan of Anastasia Eyeshadow Palettes, since I got my very first one a year or two ago, which was the Shadow Couture. Like if I had to choose my favourite eyeshadow formula, hands down it would be Anastasia Beverly Hills. Not only that, but they keep improving too which is awesome! Modern Renaissance is their first permanent palette. Usually they come out with limited edition palettes, but this was a first.

The shadows themselves are buttery and very easy to blend. They are packed with pigment, so a little goes a long way. Therefore, I barely have to tap my brush to get some color on it. However there is pigment that is left in the pan, one the brush is dipped. I just blow it away.

Individual Shades Description Of ABH Modern Renaissance Palette

These are the 14 shades and tones available in this palette.

Tempera – Velvety beige with an ultra-matte finish
This shade is that perfect under the brow bone highlight and all over lid shade that can used to set your eye primer. It’s better than your standard white as it isn’t as harsh!

Golden Ochre – Earthy yellow with an ultra-matte finish
This is a transition shade that would help in blending further shades. It’s a mate neutral.

Vermeer – Iridescent shell with a metallic finish
One of the two metallics that are available in the palette. This shade can be used as a lid shade or even as an inner corner highlight to made the eyes pop! It’s a very silvery light pink.

Buon Fresco – Antique lavender with an ultra-matte finish
This is one of the more colorful shades, whilst still being soft and subtle. It can be used as a transition shade as well as a lid shade if you want to go for an all matte look.

Antique Bronze – Metallic sable with a satin finish

Love Letter – Raspberry with an ultra-matte finish
One of the more vibrant pops of colour, love letter is a rich cranberry shade. This on the eye looks like a warm halo. Therefore, one of my favourites in the palette.

Cyprus Umber – Dark coffee with an ultra-matte finish
This is the deepest shade in the palette. Although I do wish it were deeper, this on its own is nice as well. This can be used to create more dramatic looks, like maybe a cranberry Smokey eye.

Realgar – Brick with an ultra-matte finish
This is another orangey shade, a little deeper then burnt orange and less brown. It’s a nice mid tone shade that can also act as a transition shade.

Warm Taupe – Earthy gray with an ultra-matte finish
Warm taupe is a cool toned beige with a tinge of grey which is great to soften and blend out ay harsh lines. It could be a brow bone highlight for deeper skin tones

Venetian Red – Crimson with an ultra-matte finish
This is the other pop of cranberry which makes this palette oh so beautiful! Although I don’t find it to be an ultra-matte

Red Ochre – Sienna with an ultra-matte finish
This is a deeper red brown that is good for deepening an eye look without going overboard.

Primavera – shimmery gold dust with a metallic finish
This is the second metallic in the palette. I prefer this over Vermeer because its warmer and a better lid shade for deeper skin tones. It’s a beautiful light gold that adds life to any eye look.

Burnt Orange – deep orange with an ultra-matte finish
This is another one of the pops of color that is subtle yet beautiful. This on the eye reminds me of a sunset. Blends like a dream! It’s an orange brownish shade.

Raw Sienna – neutral amber with an ultra-matte finish
This is a medium toned brown. Another very nice crease shade or could be worn in the outer v for a soft day time look paired with some nice eyeliner and falsies

Overall

One thing to note is that Anastasia palettes claim to have a shelf life of 6 months which is highly unrealistic. I wouldn’t worry too much about it because I have some of their older palettes and it’s been way longer than 6 months and still they work perfectly.

The one thing I would say I don’t like about the palette is the material of the packaging. It’s a soft cool pink velvet/suede of sorts and because of that, it’s very prone to get dirty real quick. Hence, you really need to be careful and make sure your hands are clean each time you touch the palette or you’ll have major stains! But this alone isn’t a deal breaker.
Therefore, Let’s break it down shall we?

MBF Eye Makeup Look

Here is an easy look I did using some of my favourite shades!

Pros of ABH Modern Renaissance Palette

  1. Buttery smooth texture.
  2. Very pigmented.
  3. Warm colour variety for various skin tones.
  4. Well rounded palette with a brush as well as mirror included.
  5. Has Light as well as Deeper warm shades.

Cons of ABH Modern Renaissance Palette

  1. Packaging
  2. Price – Some people may find $42 a little steep. But it’s a higher end product and that’s what the price tag reflects
  3. Almost always out of stock, hence its super hard to get your hands on.
  4. Not very travel friendly

MBF Advises

  1. If you’re a warm tone lover, then this palette is definitely for you. Its high quality, and in fact very easily workable.
  2. Always use a primer or concealer or paint pot as a base. Set it with translucent powder or a skin tone eyeshadow. It really helps.
  3. Don’t dig into the pans, tap your brush into the product lightly to avoid making the mess and picking up too much pigment. Therefore, its best to build it up slowly to the intensity you desire
  4. Always touch the palette with clean hands! Because the outer material is soft and light in colour.

MBF Rating

This palette is pretty much perfect, apart from the packaging, which is something I’m willing to look past just this once! I’m really glad I bought the palette. I’m in love!
