In Detail BH Cosmetics Gold Rush Eye and Cheek Palette Review, Swatches and My Experience

The Bh cosmetics gold rush palette has a cardboard body with a magnetic closure. Love the gold sequin prints on it. It has a medium size mirror, if you want to use it. Big mirrors make the palette heavy obviously. So there are both pros and cons attached to having a full size mirror in a palette. Specially for overseas customers like me. Heavy products attract a lot more import taxes. This palette isn’t heavy at all because of the medium size mirror.

It has 12 eyeshadows arranged in 2 rows and the bottom row has a highlighter, blush & bronzer. Thus eye & cheek palette. The palette on the inside has this gold sprinkled on a black canvas effect, looks very pretty.

The gold rush palette has warm eyeshadows, mostly revolving around gold, warm neutrals and browns. The eyeshadows have mixed finishes. Mostly pearls, frosts and mattes.

The bottom row highlighter is a frosty pearl with a hint of pink. The blush has a warm peachy hue to it. The bronzer is quite reflective. I am not exactly a fan of shiny bronzers but I am sure there are a lot of beauties who are rather fond of it.

Formula, Pigmentation

Most of the frost and pearl finish shades are quite nice in terms of formula as well as pigmentation. However not entirely happy with the matte shades. For eg the 2nd shade in top row looks like a gorgeous base shade. However it turned out to be a bit powdery and upon blending it almost ended up looking like nothing.

Same was the case with 4th and 5th shade in top row as well as 1st and 5th shade in the middle row. So I am not happy with the mattes in the palette.

As far as the frost and pearl shades are concerned, they performed better. I specially love the very first shade in the palette. It is the most gorgeous brow bone highlight. In fact, light skin tone beauties can use it as a cheek highlighter as well. The pale gold (3rd in top row) and the warm deep olive green (last in top row) performed nice. Although they weren’t very long lasting.

I specially love the 2nd, 3rd and 4th shades in the middle row. All shimmery-frost finish with lovely pigmentation and blend-ability. These in fact lasted longer than the other shades in the palette.

The last shade in the middle row is kind of unique. It is a nice medium warm brown with a very slight sheen of gold shimmer and a soft satin finish. Although I need to build up its pigmentation, I still find it interesting, so I use it a quite a lot.

Speaking of the big pans in there. The highlight is very soft and fine in texture. It has a nice sheen with a slight pink hue to it. However to be honest, I find the first shade in the top row to be a better highlight than this. The blush is okay, its a pretty peach and you can wear this everyday. It is a little sheer, so you might need to build it up depending on how you like it. Lasting power is also good.

The bronzer is shimmer based. I am not a fan of shimmer bronzers but it feels quite nice in terms of texture. I just wore it twice and both times I felt it needed more blending that usual. Also, it had a decent lasting power.

Overall Verdict

This palette is quite a hit and miss for me. I absolutely admire the conceptualisation and shade selection in this palette. Whoever did the shade selection in the palette definitely deserves all praises for doing a wonderful job. However the inconsistencies in the formula and texture of shadows was quite disappointing.

I have used a lot more bh cosmetics palettes, but this wasn’t the best of them.

MBF Advises

  1. Please use a good eyeshadow base when using these shadows.
  2. Expect some fall out while using the shadows here. I suggest doing the eye first and then the base.
  3. Good setting spray will add upto 2 hours to the total wear time
