The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid Lipstick Sydney Amaryllis Review, Swatches: Ola chicas! I am going to talk about a recent launch in the market. The Body Shop recently launched a Matte Liquid Lipstick range in India and Jacqueline Fernandez has been promoting it left right and centre everywhere. I mean she is the brand ambassador of The Body Shop India, so obviously. Now they have 12 shades in this range of liquid lipsticks and I picked up a bunch of shades. Today I am going to talk about Sydney Amaryllis which is one of the red shades in this range. Before anyone thinks otherwise, let me mention that I bought all the stuff with my own money. I know body shop sent these to almost every blogger out there, but they probably don’t even know that I exist 😛 So yes, as always my review is going to be brutally honest because I don’t jeopardise honesty for freebies.

In Detail The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid Lipstick Sydney Amaryllis Review, Swatches and My Experience

The Body Shop Matte liquid lipsticks come in a clear acrylic tube with a super matte black cap. Love that the tube is transparent so we can see the actual colour of the lipstick inside. The applicator wand is quite long with a doe foot applicator at the end. Its a simple doe foot applicator, I wish it was softer though. If I may draw your attention towards some details – This lipstick is “Made in China” and “Manufactured by” The Body Shop UK. This might sound a tiny bit confusing at first but let me tell you what it means. It means that the actual manufacturing unit is in China but TBS Uk controls it. So don’t get confused when you read “Manufactured by” on the labels. These lipsticks are all made in China.

These lipsticks have a fruity mixed with sweet cherry syrup like smell to them. The smell isn’t very strong and lasts only for minutes before fading off after application. In the ingredient list, they have mentioned “Parfum or Fragrance” but there is no specification about what the fragrance is.

Formula, Texture, Pigemtation

These lipsticks have a very velvety smooth as well as light weight formula. Almost like soft mousse, but not as fluffy if you know what I mean. These are extremely relatable to NYX soft matte lip creams to be honest in terms of texture. Pigmentation wise, I was expecting them to be super pigmented however they are not. These apply almost 70% opaque in a single swipe and I have to go over with at least 3 swipes to show the true colour on my lips. Another thing that I noticed is, you essentially have to have 3-4 coats of the lipstick on your lips if you have pigmented lips. Because otherwise, in single or double coats, this does not cover up pigmentation of the lips.

Shade The Body Shop Sydney Amaryllis Matte Lip Liquid

Sydney Amaryllis is a very bright red, almost coral red shade. This looks amazing in person and would suit a variety of skin tones. Its not on your face bright coral but has that richness of a coral shade. If you’re someone who loves bright red lipsticks, you will most probably love this shade as well.

Application

The lipstick is in fact very easy to apply because it glides on the lips smoothly. You have to be careful around the margins because this formula is silicone based and its easy to go out of the margin in such formulas. Also, I notice that the lipstick applies a little bit patchy in the first application. Hence, I always need to layer it up to make it even. Then I notice that it tends to deposit more pigment in particular areas and also moves upon layering. Therefore, I really have to spend sometime trying to make it look even and sharp. It takes close to 4 minutes to set. The surprising part is, it goes on thicker but ironically dries down less opaque. So these aren’t the most full coverage lipsticks.

Finish, Wearability, Transferability, Staying Power

The lipsticks do have a really nice matte finish. These do not dry out the lips throughout the wear time which is great. Hence, they feel very comfortable on the lips. Because of the light weight formula, you don’t feel like you have some product on your lips. These do however transfer on objects. But even though this transfers, it doesn’t turn sheer easily. It stays on my lips for around 3 to 4 hours before fading. So always touch it up every 3 to 4 hours. Also, if you have dry lips be careful because this does tend to settle around dry areas after 3 to 4 hours.

How to Remove?

I have been using a 100% pure almond oil to remove my makeup lately. It definitely removes every pigment of product that you might have on your skin. Also tried other drugstore makeup removers and they work perfectly as well. So this lipstick basically isn’t very hard to remove.

Overall Verdict

When you look at the price, they are at the higher end of drugstore lipsticks like Loreal and Revlon. Performance wise, I would say this is pretty decent if you can patiently spend time trying to apply it nicely. I don’t think I love these new lipsticks but I don’t hate them either. They are nice with a soft velvety formula which feels super light on the lips. However I wish they were more full coverage and had better staying powder. Also, I think, if only body shop could have come up with a different design for the applicator, these lipsticks would have performed better. Although I don’t regret buying this, I don’t get excited about it either.

PROs of The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid Lipstick Sydney Amaryllis

1. Transparent acrylic tube packaging.
2. Does not have a strong smell.
3. Velvety and smooth formula glides on the lips nicely.
4. Soft mousse like texture feels amazing.
5. Sydney Amaryllis is a beautiful bright red shade.
6. Lovely matte finish.
7. Comfortable on the lips.
8. Not tested on animals (I hope because these are made in China and China laws enforce animal testing of cosmetics before selling it in the market. But if those cosmetics are directly exported and not sold in China, then I guess they don’t need to test on animals. Its a very shady topic when we talk about cosmetics manufactured in China being cruelty free.)

  1. Love the lip swatches Astha. I bought the shade Goa magnolia and I completely agree with you. I thought only I felt that it was not so pigmented and applied patchy because all other bloggers were raving so much about it calling it full coverage and what not. I’m really thankful for your unbiased reviews always. You explain things so well and your photos are like professional. I’m proud to say that you’re my favourite Indian beauty blogger ?

  2. Beautiful coral red shade and your flawless lip swatches are amazing. I happened to try this at the body shop store and the SA told me that these were in real not so full coverage as well. I really wish they had packed more pigmentation in these lipsticks and improved the formula to make it go on more even on the lips. These could have been a total sell out.
