Himalaya Baby Massage Oil Review: Hey guys, Himalaya baby massage oil is probably one of the most commonly used massage oil for babies in India. I actually got this huge set of himalaya products and have been them out one after the other.

Himalaya Baby Massage Oil Review

The products that I usually use for my kids are either finished or almost over. Amidst this lockdown, I thought I will use up what I already have instead of getting new stuff online.

This is also one excuse to minimise expenditure and use up the things we already have at home. So let me take you through my experience with this baby massage oil.

In Detail Himalaya Baby Massage Oil Review, Swatches and My Experience

The Himalaya baby massage oil comes in 4 different sizes. The sizes 50 mL, 100 mL and 200 mL have a standard packaging design with a green flip open top. However the 500 mL bottle comes with a pump dispenser.

Make sure to keep the bottle safe from toddlers and older infants. My kids easily open up the flip top and spill the contents if they reach the bottle. Packaging is standard, nothing fancy or unique. Once tightly shut, it does not leak.

It has an herbal smell to it, kind of mild. It doesn’t bother my kids. The consistency is nice, almost like coconut oil. It does not solidify in cold temperature though.

How I Use it for my babies

So in the morning, I massage my kids before bath time. At night I give them a light oil massage before bed time. So I feel this oil does good for both my kids. I just take it on my palm and apply on their skin. It gets absorbed fairly soon. Doesn’t leave a sticky sensation behind. Although one can appreciate the slight sheen on the skin after massage. I do not use this oil on their scalp/hair.

Effects

I think this moisturises the skin quite nicely. As claimed by the company, it does not leave any stain on the clothes. Doesn’t feel heavy on the skin and my babies never have a problem with it. The skin looks moisturised and feels hydrated.

However I am not sure how this is going to improve their “growth and development” as per the claims. I mean yes, oil massages are soothing and relaxing for children also great for their delicate skin. A good massage increases blood flow into the muscles and help them grow healthier. However, I don’t know if this oil has any unique characteristic which makes it stand out or help in “growth and development” more than the other oils.

What I am trying to say is – a good massage technique is helpful in toning the muscles of the baby by improving circulation in the blood vessels of the muscle. You can use any good oil which suits your baby for this purpose. So the improvement of “growth & development” claim is a very generalised claim. This product has no specific ingredient which works for that particular claim.

Overall I think this is a decent massage oil for babies of all age groups. In budget, this has never caused any allergy or reaction on my kids’ skin. (My elder one has sensitive skin and Himalaya baby massage oil was gentle on her skin). The ingredients as per claims are all natural. However, the way these ingredients are written on the bottle, I am not even sure if the list is complete. But I hope it is.

Now, my honest personal opinion – I think this is a really good purchase. It is affordable, contains some really good natural ingredients and gentle on the baby’s skin. I would totally recommend you to go ahead and give this a try if you’re second guessing about it. Try the smaller size bottle first and if you like it, you can get the biggest sizes. I really appreciate that Himalaya has many size options available for this product.

MBF Advises

Always remember that a baby’s massage should be done with a moderate pressure. Never put strong pressure on any body part of the baby in the name of massage. I had a “malish wali aunty” who used to give my kid massage when she was very small, my kid used to cry so hard and everyone said “its ok, malish mein toh bachhe rote hi hain”. Well I spoke to my paediatrician about it and he said “Don’t torture the baby by putting pressure which is painful for him, massage in a gentle yet effective way and let the baby play and have fun while you do it”.

So since that day, I refuse to let any “malish wali aunty” massage my baby with a lot of pressure. In fact, these days amidst lockdown I have been having fun with both of them. They enjoy their massage time. It takes a little bit of time and patience but kids eventually learn to enjoy such routines if you make it fun for them. I learnt it my way, I hope this is helpful to you too.
