Hey pretty ladies! Hope you are having a fabulous day or night, whenever you’re reading this! Today I bring to the limelight another palette, which has gotten quite some buzz on social media, even the brand itself! When I first saw the swatches for the palette, my breath was taken away! But then I looked at Jeffree Star’s YouTube debut of his palette and I wasn’t too impressed, so I decided to not get it. My friend bought it and I convinced myself to spend money elsewhere. And do you know, 2 months later, I fell in love with it again and I couldn’t get it out of my head, so I bought it! I’m talking about none other than the Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette, his first permanent eyeshadow palette. Read on to see if it lived up to my high expectations…! How to Use Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette

Like with any eyeshadow palette, it’s always best to start out with a primer, preferably one that has a bit of color so your lids are one even skin tone. Lightly set it with translucent powder or a skin toned eyeshadow, in this case you can use china white, or Courtney if you’re a deeper skin toned beauty.

I usually like to start from my crease and then work my way to my brow bone and then to my lids, which I usually used glittery or shimmery shades. You can mix and match it however you like!

In Detail Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette Review, Swatches and My Experience

I really went back and forth, deciding whether I should get this palette or not. While I do now realise I could have done without it, I’m glad I got a chance to try it out. Yes of course I have better palettes in my collection, but I will definitely try to get a lot of use out of this one as well, make it more workable for myself.

I’m all for crazy colors. I enjoy my neutrals as much as I do my neons and my bolds. What caught my eye about this palette was the color selection. There are no repeat shades, and it’s very versatile, almost like the shades have no link to each other. For me, 2 shades are absolutely staple, a white and a black and this palette has both!

I’m not too big a fan of the way the palette looks. And also I feel the font of ‘beauty killer’ could’ve been better. I’m all about the packaging and this palette’s didn’t impress me.

Individual Shade Description of Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette

Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette Review Swatches all shades focus

The palette includes 10 shades with various finishes:

Top Row

Star Power – Bright matte pink: This shade is good for using all over the lid or even in the crease. It does take a little work to build up and it does tend to stain the skin as well, which is common for neon colors. The use of a primer reduces this

Princess – Light shimmery baby tea pink/lilac: This is a pretty shade for an inner corner highlight or a brow bone highlight or as an all over lid shade. This is easier to work with and blends well.

Violence – Mid Toned Shimmery warm Purple: This is probably my least favourite shade in the palette because it’s very difficult to get some pigment on my eyes. I had to constantly layer it for it to show the tiniest bit. Its best to use a flat brush with this, and to avoid blending, rather pack it on.

Rich Bitch – Metallic Cool toned Gold: The name is spot on with this! However it is difficult to blend, so I would recommend the same as violence, to pack it on with a flat brush. Because it is chunky, it is prone to major fall out as well!

Courtney – Mid tone Beige: This is one of my favourite shades in the palette. It glides on like butter and blends like a dream! It’s the perfect transition shade. Pure love!

Bottom Row

Expensive – Bright shimmery Turquoise: This shade looks gorgeous but doesn’t translate on the eyes that well. It needs work to be built up to the intensity that’s in the pan. The shade also has major fallout!

Confession – Shimmery metallic burgundy: This is a very grunge kind of color. It’s definitely very unique, and very pretty on the eyes. It applies fairly decently as well.

Vanity – Deep matte charcoal purple: This shade is one of the hardest to work with. It simply refuses to blend! Although pretty to look at, this shadow is quite troublesome!

China White – matte off-white: One of the best shades in the palette. China white is good for setting your primer or as an under the brow bone highlight. Texture is smooth and blends really well!

Black Rainbow – Is a Matte Black with sparkles: A unique shade because it’s not shimmery but it has coloured glitter particles. Black is a staple for me in palettes and I’m glad it’s included in this one as well. The shade has a bit of fall out but other than that, it performs decently!

Jeffree explained how he’s mapped out the shades as quads. Here are the possible quads he mentioned:

Overall

The shades in the pan themselves look gorgeous but they fall a little short during performance. Some of them stain the eyes, like the neon pink, whilst others have major fallout like rich-bitch (gold). Some of them are hard to blend, like vanity, even though the color is really nice. I felt a wide contrast when I was using the shades on my eyes. Some glided on and blended like a dream, whilst others left me wondering what the heck was going on with these shadows. Be careful of the brushes you use as you will have to dig in to the product!

However, On the bright side, I don’t think I’ll ever run out of any of these colors!

Here’s a look that I did with the palette

Pros of Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette

  1. Variety of colors
  2. Large pans = more product
  3. Great mattes
  4. Easily available on various websites as well as in the Morphe Brushes store
  5. Includes a white and black – 2 staple shades.

Cons of Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette

  1. Some troublesome shades – Especially the shimmers
  2. Major fallout from some of the shades
  3. 10 shades, some are hits and some are misses
  4. Expensive considering everything isn’t on point and there are shortcomings
  5. Some colors stain the skin
  6. Too many brighter shades
  7. Not a complete palette on its own

MBF Advises

  1. Always use a primer beforehand
  2. Use a flat brush for the shimmery shades and pack on rather than blending. That’s the best way to get maximum pigment and avoid fallout
  3. Use a denser brush to blend out the crease shades, because It will take some work
  4. Whilst using this palette, do your eyes before you do your face, so you can clean up the fallout

MBF Rating

3.5/5

Whilst the palette is decent, and can be worked with if you try, with that price tag, it’s not worth it. It has some good qualities as well as some bad ones. This is his palette so let’s hope Jeffree works out for his next palette ‘Androgyny’ that’s coming out soon!

  1. i disagree with the CON that says there’s too many bright colours. this is totally dependent on the person and so many palettes recently are neutral its nice to see some bright colours to play with for once!
