In Detail Lakme French Rose Absolute Illuminating Eye Shadow Palette Review, Swatches and My Experience

Lakme has been a long loved Indian brand for everyone since a very long time so when lakme launches a product, it does grab our attention. Lakme came up with this range of eyeshadows a very long time ago and they looked quite interesting. Right now, there are three variants available from this range, but if I remember correctly there were two more which I guess have been discontinued. The Lakme Golden and Silver eyeshadow palettes.

The three existing ones we can find in the market right now are
Royal Persia
French Rose
Nude Beach

The one that I have with me is the French rose version of it. the palette has six shades and all of them are warm tones, so it’s a single palette which can be used to create a couple of different looks with just this palette.

Something that impressed me when I received this product was the packaging. it’s a shiny all black packing with details printed in white and to open the palette you have to push the tiny black botton which is exactly in the centre on the lower part of the box. Quite nice, right?

Once you have opened it the colors are covered with a single plastic thin sheet/film which separates the colors and the mirror and keeps the mirror absolutely clean. I kept the plastic sheet with me for a very long time and recently lost it. The eye shadows are pressed into circular pans in a black plastic frame. It’s a very travel friendly product, doesn’t open easily so doesn’t get ruined easily.

The outer packing is a carton box which again has a carboard covered with a thing layer of sponge and then the palette, the sponge acts as a protective barrier and makes sure the product doesn’t get a single scratch in transit.

Another great thing about this palette is the mirror that comes inside the palette, a lot of eyeshadow palettes these days have a transparent top flap. The mirror is very good quality and enough for to do your eye makeup. I never have to pick up another mirror while using this palette.

It also comes with a dual ended sponge applicator which I have never used and the sponge tip got lost on one side and then the other so I disposed it. The sponge tip applicators are quite useless and a small brush would any day be better and if that isn’t possible then no applicator at all. Its literally of no use except removing excess product, but even for that I would prefer a cotton bud.

The formula is very pigmented, finely milled and extremely soft, easy to blend and easy to transfer but stays for a long time. It gets picked up by the brushes easily and transfers exactly as the swatches.

There are only two true matte shade, shade 2 and 4 both are browns, a darker and a lighter one, one is a dark pink which has a hint of shimmer to it but that’s negligible, a golden shimmer, a dark orange with hint of golden shimmer and a dark rose gold shimmer.

The mattes transfer, as mattes but the shimmers are not very impressive. They’ll give a little bit of shine and tiniest bit shimmer but that about it. They are more of metallic shades than shimmer ones. We have to keep in this mind that expecting the golden to pop is going to disappoint you, it will come out as golden but metallic one that all.

Whenever I can’t find my highlighter, I use this to highlight my brow bones its very fine and does make a good pigmented and a true golden highlighter but just a tiny bit, not too much.

The golden particles in orange can be seen when the light bounces on it but not insanely, we’ll know its there but it won’t be outstanding.

All the colors will come off very pigmented but they aren’t true matte, or true shimmers. They are mix and match of both except the two I mentioned earlier.

I had very high hopes from this palette considering the money spent on it, but even after discount it still isn’t worth it. There are a lot of better products in the market for lesser price and better quality. Even lakme has eyeshadow palettes with 12 shades for exactly the same price and more variants and a lot of new colors.

MBF Advises

Explore your options before you invest in any eyeshadow palettes. There are a lot of brands available today with a lot of competitive products, they are all easily available.

If you love the colour combination, metallic color eyeshadow and price isn’t an issue with you. This palette will go with almost all your Indian wear dresses for a light to bold eye makeup also try to wet your makeup brush while applying the metallic shades. I use either M.A.C Fix + or my fingers to apply the metallics just to get the colors to pop.
