MAC Cream Colour Base Shell Review, Swatches

Now, it’s a very hyped up product by M.A.C, many makeup artists have been seen talking about it, many have described it as their holy grail product, so obviously being a die heart make up lover I wanted to try this product.

The brand M.A.C is available online and in stores but somehow when I wanted to buy it, I couldn’t find it anywhere and where ever I asked for it, it was out of stock. So my fiancé was travelling for work and it occurred to me to ask him to get for me from the airport, and thankfully I got it from Mumbai Airport, though he was shocked to look at the price for such a tiny product but well, but then what can be done ? he still reminds me how he was getting late to catch his flight and still went to M.A.C and buy this for me.

In Detail MAC Cream Colour Base Shell Review, Swatches and My Experience

M.A.C Cream Color Base – Shell, A beautiful product.

It comes in a standard M.A.C packaging, with a transparent top. The whole packing is made of good quality plastic, very sturdy and reliable, clicks nicely and locks when you close the lid, its small and easy to travel with. It does not come with any mirror or applicator.

It’s a very versatile product and a little goes a long way. the box closes nicely which makes it safe to keep in the bag without having to worry about the product getting ruined.

Since the top of the product is transparent, you don’t have to open it to see the colour, even the outer box packaging comes with a round hole punched which make you see the product colour even when in the box packaging. I still keep it in the outer box.

The formula is very creamy and soft. It is packed with shimmer particles. What makes it stand apart is that it has very fine shimmer particles which don’t flake or fall easily after setting. The product isn’t completely solid or liquid but a nice creamy-solid kind of formula.

The best part about this is that it is very very consistent. When you apply the product you don’t have to blend it or spread it to get that even finish. A single application will give you that even look. It very easy to apply, but one thing to keep in mind with this is that while you are applying it, if you put a little too much product it will look beautiful initially but after a while it’ll start to crease and bleed around the applied area, it will do that.

For e.g. You applied it on the eyelids without setting it with anything or applying anything else but just this, after a couple of hours you will notice that it has creased or the product has transferred to under-eye area and that shimmer can be seen all around the eyes.

So, you have to be careful not to apply too much. Take a little bit and build it up, not more than 2 swipes would be required to get the best colour payout of this product.

As we can see in the picture that it’s a very light champagne pink colour product. When you apply it, it will not appear pink but shimmery! with a very light hint of that pink. The pink tint is extremely light and muted. Shimmer-y glowy champagne colour is mostly what you see.

Very versatile product.

  • it can be used as an eyeshadow base
  • can be applied before putting on the base on the highlight points of your face for the naturally glowing skin effect
  • after completing you makeup as highlighter, set it with powder highlighter for that blinding beaming glow
  • cupids bow
  • mix with moisturizing for a very subtle glow
  • on the lips either before or after applying your lipstick depending on how frosty looking lipstick you are in the mood to flaunt that day

In a nutshell, it is a shimmer dominant product with a cream base. You can experiment with it. There is no limit to its usage in your makeup routine

Whenever I am in a hurry, this is the only product I would apply on my eyelids and run off. I take little product on my fingers apply it on my eyes, put on some eyeliner and mascara. My eye makeup is done!

Even in general I apply this with my fingers only, I don’t think I have ever used any sort of applicator for this one.

Cons of MAC Cream Colour Base Shell

  1. Creases a lot
  2. Pricey
  3. Cannot build the product too much it will crease and become patchy
  4. Might transfer to other parts of your face if too much is applied

MBF Advises

Do not try to build the product too much, if you put too much product it’ll get accumulated in the creases of the eye and will look patchy and out of place.

Apply a single swipe at a time and another swipe with a light hand, don’t take too much product at once and put a thick layer, that will not give you the best of this product.

For cheeks, eyes and cupids bow – set it with a powder highlighter it’ll last a very long time with a natural glow.
