A lot of brands have such palettes. However, maybelline being such a loved brand all over the world, I couldn’t resist but get it. The palette retails for $12.99 only and I thought why not give this a try. Let us dive in and learn more about this palette as well as my experience with it.

How to Use Maybelline Face Studio Master Contour Kit

Step 1: Contour to shape and define. Use the narrow side of the brush. Blend bronzer in a “3” shape along the hairline, jawline and under cheekbones.

Step 2: Blush to accentuate cheeks. Use the wide side of the brush. Apply onto cheekbones above bronzer, blend.

Step 3: Highlight for an illuminating effect. Sweep a finger above cheekbones and on the center of the forehead, chin and bridge of the nose.

In Detail Maybelline Face Studio Master Contour Palette Kit Review, Swatches and My Experience

The palette or as Maybelline calls it, the kit comes in a very simple and basic packaging. Its a see through transparent lid with classic black base. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the arrangement of the pans is – Rhombus! 😀 The pans are typically arranged in a rhombus shapes which is unlike any other palette I have seen before. The back of the packaging mentions all the details including a detailed ingredients list. The palette also came with a small brush. However, the brush was pretty useless for contouring, highlighting or for blush. Hence, I never use the brush that came with the palette.

Maybelline Face Studio Master Contour Kit comes in 2 variants. One is Light to Medium while the other is Medium to Deep. I wish I had known this before I purchased the palette. Because at the counter, I just saw this one and hence got it. Even the sales assistant did not bother to tell me anything about it. My skin tone is somewhere around MAC NC 42, hence, for me the “Medium to Deep” palette would have been more suitable. However, because of the lack of interest of the SA as well as my lack of information, I ended up purchasing the wrong shade variant for my skin. However, keeping the shades apart, we will focus on the other qualities of the product.

Texture, Formula, Pigmentation

The texture of all the 3 pressed powders in the palette is quite smooth and fine. The formula feels satiny. It is very easy to pick up the product on a brush. I usually use different brushes for highlight, contour and blush. With all the 3 powders, the respective brushes are able to lift a decent amount of product. There is not a lot of fall out which is great.

As far as pigmentation is concerned, I am a bit – eh! I mean, the pigmentation is okay, but this surely does not meet the standards of high end products. For blush, I like the fact that its not super pigmented because I can build up the shade or tone is down as per my wish. However, I hate to go over and over for the contour. For highlight, I feel everyone has their own personal opinion. I mean, for beauties who like subtle highlight, this is good. However, if you’re someone who loves super glowing highlights, you may not feel like this has the best pigmentation.

Contour

The contour powder has a nice texture. My brush is able to pick up an okay amount of product. However, if you want, you can always spray some MAC fix plus and pick up more product. The product blends well on the skin. I have to say however that this is not my shade. I sometimes use it as a bronzer, but honestly, beauties whose skin tone is around MAC NC 30 can only pull this off. For ladies around my skin tone, I think the “Medium to Deep” variant would be ideal.

Blush

The blush is a very pretty light bubble gum pink on my skin. Depending on the skin undertones, I presume this might appear slightly different on different skin tones. I do however love this blush shade. In fact I love wearing this lightly on the apples of my cheek. I like my blushes to have a fair amount of pigmentation, not too much. And this one just hits the right spot.

Highlight

The highlight is this lovely champagne shade. Its nicely pigmented when swatches with fingers. But with a brush, on the cheeks it offers a natural glow. It does not make my cheeks blinding or anything. Even on building up, this never really reaches a point where I can say I am glowing to the stars. Hence, ladies who like natural highlights for everyday purposes will find this suitable.

Wearability, Staying Power

The 3 powders wear well on my combination skin for upto 3 to 4 hours. They do not really go patchy. But definitely the blush fades out faster than the others. So if you’re planning to go out, you sure would need to carry this along for touch ups. Using a makeup fixing spray helps them last longer, but not for too long. You really need to blend these products nicely to make them look flawless. However, I have observed that these do tend to sheer out while blending. Hence, definitely need to go and pick more product from the pan.

Overall Verdict

Overall according to me, this is a decent drugstore palette for beginners. However if you’re into professional makeup, you may not find this to be the best. Its good for college students or teens who want some natural makeup. Please note that the shades do not last very long so definitely carry the palette along. Otherwise, overall I am fine with the palette, not very excited about it to be honest. Also, please keep in mind the shade variant suitability like I talked about above.

Cons of Maybelline Face Studio Master Contour Kit

1. Some beauties who like their products to be very pigmented may not be a huge fan of this product.
2. I wish it were longer lasting.
3. I strongly feel companies must label the skin variant the products are meant for in the front of the packaging. This way, like me no one else would end up getting the wrong shades.

1. Prep your skin well, have a good base. Those are the first steps towards a flawless looking makeup.
2. Do not apply too much product at first. Take a little bit on the brush and then judge for yourself how much product you’d need.
3. Blend the product really nicely to make it look natural. Also note, you would need to pick up the product a few times while blending because this tends to sheer out.
4. Use a makeup fixing spray to make it last a little long
