In Detail Maybelline Ruler 80 Super Stay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick Review, Swatches and My Experiences

I prefer only Matte lipsticks for my everyday wear because shiny and glossy lip products just look over the top and a “bit too much” on my face. But the main problem with the matte lipsticks is they dry out your lips and make it patchy after sometime.

I really had a tough time finding the one that suits my requirements till I found this one from Maybelline. They have extensive color range of about 25 shades. There is at least one shade for each one of us. While plenty of other brands brag about their lipsticks lasting 12 hours, we can confirm that this lipstick honestly just… doesn’t come off.

The Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick is packaged in a plastic tube with a solid-colored body which is in the color of the lipstick and this makes identification easier. The applicator is leaf shaped and it makes application easier, especially, around the corners and outlines of the lips. The print written on the tube will fade off within a week. The size of the tube is generous and we get a good quantity product for the price paid and lasts for about 3 months if we use on daily basis.

And coming to the shade Ruler 08, it is a beautiful color which looks like a mix of Pink, mauve and red. Only one swipe is enough to get the good color pay off and can hide lip pigmentation as well.

I purchased this online and I picked this shade expecting it to be not-so-dark color as I am not very fond of darker colors. But when I received this, I was taken aback as it turned out to be darker than what I wanted. But overall, the color was pretty good and it is unique, not like the regular Red’s and Pink’s which we have in our bags.

I hardly used this shade for only 10-15 times and I prefer it when I hang out with friends at night. Inks have a sweet, vanilla-type smell which is pleasant, but the scent lasts only for some time. True to its promise, it delivers excellent pigmentation and matte finish without leaving your lips parched and cracked.

I always apply a lipbalm (Neutrogena Lip moisturizer) as base and then apply this lipstick as my lips are so dry and I don’t feel comfortable if I don’t apply the lip balm. If you are applying any cream based lip balm, then you need to wipe it off slightly with tissue and then apply this lipstick, otherwise you will not get the perfect matte finish.

And the most important thing is do not press the lips together until its completely dried because you may end up with patches and the lipstick peels off. As the texture is thick, you may feel heavy at first but after 1 hour, you do not feel any sense of stickiness or heaviness. You might not even need a lip liner because this product will not smudge at all unless you remove it on your own.

And coming to the staying power, it easily stays for 10 hours without bleeding or transfer of the color.

Probably, this is the only lipstick which stayed on my lips this long. But, there is quite a difficulty while removing the lipstick. I recommend using an oil based cleanser or Vaseline to completely remove the lipstick. Micellar water and cleansing wipes won’t work. I personally apply Vaseline petroleum jelly and gently wipe it off with cotton pad.
