Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette Review, Swatches: Hey guys, so I am probably the last person on the planet to review this palette 😀 I somehow never got this before because I was not so much into eye makeup. However since the past 2 years, my love for makeup has been growing and I love doing eye makeup! Usually I mostly use my Makeup Forever Eyeshadows or NYX Eyeshadows. But I have been experimenting with different brands recently. Honestly, playing with makeup is so much fun. After the successful launch of this Original Nudes palette, maybelline launched a series of palettes in the same range which are Maybelline Blushed Nudes, Maybelline Rock Nudes etc. So let us talk more about this original Nudes palette from Maybelline, New York.

In Detail Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette Review, Swatches and My Experience

The palette comes in a sleek packaging with a see through hinged top. You can see all the shades without even opening the palette. The back label has all details about the product including a guide how you can use these shadows as Quads, Trios as well as Duos. Appreciate the fact that maybelline has put an ingredient list at the back of the packaging. However that is not the complete list. Hence, I got the complete list and have mentioned it above. There is an applicator provided in the palette which has a sponge tip on one end and a brush on the other end.

Texture, Pigmentation

Well I was kind of expecting this palette to be outstanding because the shades look so nice from the outside. However I was greatly disappointed with the texture of the shadows in the palette. Most of the mattes in here feel quite dry and are not pigmented enough. However the the satin and frosty shades are slightly better. Pigmentation wise, I have to say none of the shades impressed me. Most shades come out sheer and you need to layer them up. Only a few shades have okay pigmentation. Hence, no shade has a “wow” factor as far as pigmentation is concerned. I will talk about the details of each and every shade below.

Individual Shades Description of Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette

The shadows in this palette do not have any names to them. Therefore, we are going to arbitrarily number them so that it is easy for us to refer to the individual shades as I describe them. We will do the top row first and then the bottom row next.

Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette Review, Swatches Focus

Top Row

1st Shade – This is a pale peachy shade with noticeable iridescent shimmers to it. This shade looks really pretty. However, it is quite chalky. It also sheers out significantly upon blending, only a little bit of shimmery sheen is left behind. You can use it as a light sheer brow bone highlight, but be careful and blend it with a very very light hand, or else it will loose all pigmentation.

2nd Shade – This is a satin finish peachy taupe shade. It has nice pigmentation when patted on but upon blending, it does sheer out significantly. The texture of this shade wasn’t as dry and felt quite smooth.

3rd Shade – It is a matte cream shade. The texture is quite dry and feels almost chalky. This shade is not very pigmented and sheers out to almost nothing upon blending. I use this shade to set my eye base. I do not use this as an eyeshadow.

4th Shade – This is a shimmery metallic deep bronzy brown. This is one of the stand outs in the palette because it feels very smooth. It has decent pigmentation with zero kick backs or fall outs. This blends very nicely and does not turn sheer on blending. One of my most used shade in this palette.

5th Shade – This is a matte taupe shade. This again feels quite dry and has poor pigmentation. On swatching with your finger, it looks like it has some pigmentation. However on even slight blending, it sheers out to almost nothing.

6th Shade – This is a matte brownish grey colour. This one feels quite smooth and has decent pigmentation. This shade applies well and does not sheer out too much upon blending. The only matte shade in the top row which is quite nice and I love using this.

Bottom Row

7th Shade – A slightly shimmery yet satin taupe shade. This shade feels quite chalky. On swatching, it does look like it has decent pigmentation but upon blending it sheers out significantly. Only a taupy sheen is left behind.

8th Shade – This is a medium cinnamon brown shade in matte finish. While it is quite smooth, if comes out a little powdery. This has decent pigmentation and does not sheer out a lot upon blending. A beautiful crease shade. Also, one of the stand out mattes in this palette.

9th Shade – In the pan this shade looks like an intense gold. However on the skin this shade is more medium golden beige which has average pigmentation. When I blend it out, it just looks like a wash of golden sheen on the lids. This shade has absolutely no fall outs.

10th Shade – This is a deep satin cinnamon brown with a beautiful sheen to it. This shade feels quite smooth and is decently pigmented. It does not sheer out on blending. This is another stand out shade in this palette.

11th Shade – This is a pale white frosty shade with a tinge of peachiness to it. It looks intensely pigmented when swatched but upon blending, this looses almost all pigmentation. Only a pearly or frosty sheen is left behind.

12th Shade – It looks like this is a jet black in the pan, but on the skin it comes out as a charcoal colour. Texture wise this is quite chalky and powdery. It has decent pigmentation and does not sheer out much on blending.

Overall Verdict

On the positive side, I do feel that the balance of light, medium and dark tone shades in this palette is really good. There are dark matte browns and black, some deep satins and shimmers, mid tone shimmers and mattes as well as lighter shimmers and mattes. There is not a lot of fall out with the shadows in this palette. Some shades in fact have zero fall outs. While some shades are amazing, not all shades are exciting. For example shades 4, 6, 8 and 10 are amazing. But I was not impressed with the rest of the shades. I do not find myself reaching for it very often except for those 4 shades.

If you’re a beginner looking for affordable possible dupes of the high end neutral palettes, you may give this a try. Also, I would advise you to purchase this during sale season when you can get upto 40% off on this palette in most places like USA as well as India.

MBF Advises

1. Please use a good eyeshadow base or primer before using these shadows.
2. Layer them up to show their true pigment.
3. These shades are quite buildable but do sheer out very easily on blending. Hence, blend them with a very very light hand.
4. Use a makeup fixing spray on top to make them stay longer.
5. You can purchase the palette during Maybelline sale to get it for a lower price.
