New Maybelline Colossal Kajal 24 Hr Review, Swatches, Demo: Bonjour my ladies! Maybelline has yet again come up with a new formulation for The Colossal Kajal. This one is the Maybelline The Colossal Kajal 24 Hr Smudge Proof Deep Black with Aloe Vera. I know right, the length of the complete name 😀 So Maybelline New York recently launched this in the Indian market. Colossal Kajals are only available in India and I haven’t seen it anywhere else in the world. Before this, Maybelline had 3 more colossals in the market. Let me know if you’d like me to do a review post since I think I have all those 3 in my vanity. So let us jump in and explore more about this new kajal. I have done a demo testing out if this is actually smudge proof and water resistant as it claims.

Colossal Tips

1. Starting at the inner corner of the eye, draw a neat line along the waterline. Add another stroke along the upper lash line, extending it beyond the outer corner of each eye for a sharply defined look.
2. To get the best out of your colossal kajal, twist up only as much as required for application. Snap the airtight cap shut after every use.
3. Keep away from very high temperatures.

In Detail New Maybelline Colossal Kajal 24 Hr Review, Swatches, Demo and My Experience

When you look at the packaging, its almost exactly the same. This new one is like little brother to the previous original Maybelline the Colossal Kajal and the Colossal 12 hr kajal. It has a twist and retract mechanism just like the other colossal kajals. Basically, packaging wise no complains. However, I strongly feel that they should have included an ingredient list on the packaging. I mean its indeed high time makeup companies start putting up detailed ingredient list on all the products. I need not explain why this is so important.

Pigmentation

Much like the original maybelline colossal kajal, this one isn’t intensely pigmented. This is black but I wouldn’t call it deep or jet black in a single stroke. However if you go 3-4 times over and over, the pigment obviously builds up. If I may draw your attention towards the description written on the product itself, it says “For an intensely black, bold look, try Colossal Kajal Super Black” – This means Maybelline in fact did not intend to make it so super pigmented as the previous one either.

So we may come to a conclusion that this kajal does not have intense pigmentation because maybelline wanted it to have moderate pigmentation. For super deep pigmentation, maybelline recommends the Maybelline Super black rather than this one.

Formula, Finish

This kajal glides easily on the skin without tugging. Always make sure to twist up only as much as you need otherwise these kajals are shaped into such a thin structure that they tend to break easily. Within a minute, the kajal sets into a nice matte finish. It doesn’t have any shimmer in it. Its just plain black with a soft matte finish.

Smudge Proof? Water Proof? Staying Power?

Coming to the Smudge Proof and Water proof claims. I am not sure how did maybelline call it so. I put this kajal through a smudge test and on rubbing, this did smudge. Also, under water, this does loose pigmentation. I have demonstrated both these tests in the photos below so that you guys can decide for yourself.

Finally, let’s talk about the staying power. This kajal lasted on my eyes for 4 hours after which it started loosing its pigmentation. After 6 hours, this had lightened out noticeably. However, as a relief it did not spread around. Hence, I did not end up with raccoon eyes. Still, I expected it to last for at least 8 hours when it claims of lasting upto 24 hours.

Overall Verdict

Overall I have to say I am not too excited about this kajal. For starters, unlike the Super Black formula which was made in Germany, this one is made in China.

Although this is not super duper pigmented, I do not really consider it a con because there are ladies who do not wear intense black kohls. There are days when you want a light kohl look going on. In fact maybelline itself has mentioned on the packaging that if you want super black, bold eyes, you must go for the Maybelline Super Black Colossal kajal and not this one. However I am kind of disappointed with the fact that this does not meet the 24 hour claim. Also, its neither completely smudge proof, nor water proof. I find it a decent as an everyday use kajal, not something I would prefer for a bold makeup look.

1. User friendly, travel friendly packaging.
2. Applies smoothly on the waterline as well as on the lashline.
3. Doesn’t transfer once it sets properly.
4. Gives a nice soft matte black finish.
5. Claims to have Aloe Vera in it (However I am not sure since there is no ingredient list).
6. Does not irritate my eyes.

1. Not completely smudge proof.
2. Not waterproof.
3. Doesn’t stay for 24 hours as per claim.
4. No ingredient list 🙁
5. Not the best pigmentation.

MBF Advises

1. If you’re looking for an everyday wear kajal, this is a good option. However its not going to give an intense bold eye look.
2. Allow it to set completely for around a minute to prevent it from transferring.
3. This gets easily removed with the help of a makeup remover. Make sure to remove your makeup completely before going to bed.
