Nykaa Matte To Last Liquid Lipstick Jaan 12 Review, Swatches: Ever since it launched in 2012, Nykaa has constantly pushed the envelope to become one of the most favoured pocket-friendly Indian beauty brands – and perhaps the only one in its category worth shopping from. It is one of my preferred online shopping destinations so I am quite clued in to anything new that they do.

So their latest offering is ten long-lasting liquid lipsticks that are inspired by Indian cities. I was drooling the moment I saw them in the promotional flyer that landed in my inbox. So I went ahead and ordered Jaan – a bold and beautiful purplish shade that would last me through dull and dreary monsoon, lacklustre autumn and cold and grey winters. And here is my review of the same…

This edition is a range of reds, pinks, and nudes, varying in intensity and colour. Each shade has a swatch above every slot. The lipstick box adorns design or print that symbolises the city. Priced at Rs 550 each, the lipsticks come in a compact packaging. Nykaa gets a big thumbs up for ensuring all the shades are paraben free and cruelty-free.

Benefits

The best thing about this range of lipsticks is how the matte texture does not mean they will dry your lips, or look cracked after some time. The other thing is the colour payout and of course the charm of wearing the essence of a living city on your lips.

In Detail Nykaa Matte To Last Liquid Lipstick Jaan 12 Review, Swatches and My Experience

I go weak-kneed about a liquid lipstick ONLY if it is a cream finish. And this one has a good texture. The Matte To Last Liquid Lipstick comes encased in a hard paper box that has a Lucknowi-inspired line art on the front face. The rear side has all the ingredients – such a plus! The product itself is in a sleek transparent structured tube. The liquid lipstick is handy hence can be easily carried around in clutch/handbag. But the best surprise is when you open the wand – the applicator has a pointed shape that allows you to manoeuvre the colour along the lip line which ensures proper application and also defines the shape of the lips.

The shade “Jaan” is a gorgeous plum-pink shade – a good mix of orchid, kachnaar and a little aubergine. The red tones are more prominent than blue – which makes it perfect for Indian skin tones. It is a perfect mixture of gloss and colour. Lips look matte, but still moisturized with a good colour pay-off. The shade is very feminine, and yet strong and great for day as well as evening wear. It adds a very feminine touch to the entire make-up look and is a colour for all seasons. It will compliment almost all Indian skin-tones and make all complexions look great.

The consistency is thick yet buttery and creamy – so it makes the lips appear fuller. It stays true to its claims. It is a bit thick so you need to keep your hair away from it – at least while applying. It might settle a bit in fine lines – so do buff and prime your lips well before applying.

How I Use it

I exfoliate and prep my lips with a little milk cream and a muslin cloth at least 20 minutes before using the lipstick. Start with less and build up to get the required amount. Do not purse your lips too hard.

Effects

This liquid lipstick is comfortable and hydrating, despite being a light weight matte texture. It gives a good colour payout and opaque finish to the lips. It does not look ‘dry matte’ but a moist matte – perfect for a bee-stung look. I also did the kiss, drink and eat test with this shade. And this one passed with flying colours. It left a lip mark on my cup of coffee, but that was maybe because I had used two layers of the product. It is definitely made to last and stays put for at least seven hours. This Jaan has become my Jaan! ☺ (Sorry, couldn’t resist!)

If you want, you wait for ten minutes for the lipstick to set before applying a little clear gloss to convert this gorgeous matte shade into a glamorous glossy one. Apply the lip gloss firstly onto the lower lip, from the centre to the corners. Repeat this on your upper lip, paying extra attention to your cupids bow. This way you will achieve a perfectly shaded effect, leaving the middle of your lips looking more intense and shinier in colour.
