Today I’m here with a review on a newly launched product by Nykaa cosmetics. Yes! I’m talking about the nykaa skin shield anti-pollution foundation. It is a triple action formula that claims to combat pollution, deeply hydrate skin and control oil.

Nykaa cosmetics is one of the Indian brands I truly love but they do have their own share of screw ups. The first foundation they launched, the skin genius one, did not cater to the wide spectrum of skin tones in India and hence disappointed a lot of people. So when they let us in on the fact that they are creating 15 shades this time, I was excited for the launch.

I ordered one for myself the very day it launched and had to resort to their colour wheel for assistance. It is a hassle buying foundations online and most often we end up with the wrong shade or undertone so I was hesitant to order this merely seeing the pics but I decided to try my luck.

The new Nykaa foundation is available in 15 different shades wih three undertones. Though they do not cater to the whole spectrum of skin tones out there, it is an extremely good beginning. I have wheatish to dusky complexion with yellow undertones so I went for number 10 golden hour.

I had my doubts between 12 and 10 but I decided to go for 10 as 12 looked a bit too orangey for my liking. You can go to nykaa’s website or check out swatches to find your shade. The package came two days later.

The foundation comes in a fuss-free squeezy tube which looks pretty basic. It is travel friendly and spill proof. I am not a huge fan of glass bottles as I am extremely clumsy and tend to drop them a lot.

The foundation is creamy, thick and has the consistency of a body lotion or thin moisturizer. I was worried this foundation would be watery like their previous range of foundations but I was happy to see the change.

The shade however disappointed me. It was light for me and the undertone was not as yellow as I hoped it would be. Now I am a person who would fall in the middle of the skin tone ranges in india. So if number 10 is light for me, I have my doubts about the beautiful chocolate girls out there finding their match.

However, you will find the one for you if you’re on the extremely fair side. This is quite saddening and I hope nykaa will launch deeper shades and improve on the undertones. This foundation looks quite pinkish on me and I expected this one to match me better as this it is clearly mentioned on the website that this is for warm undertones.

Seeing the swatches online, I didn’t feel there was much of a difference between the intermediate shades and undertones. They were all so close to each other in shade and at the end they took a giant leap and included a few deep shades.

This is the same thing that happened with the Beauty Blender foundation range. but nykaa being a drugstore brand has done quite a good job with the shade range as other Indian companies like lakme still make just 4 or 5 shades for extremely fair skinned people.

Coming to the application, I tried applying this with a buffing brush, a beauty blender and with my fingers. Like any other foundation, the coverage varied and was maximum when I applied it with a brush. The easiest way was to blend it with my fingers as it has a cream consistency. Beauty blender did a good job too but I had some trouble getting an even finish as it was a bit thick. While using a brush, I noticed more brush streaks than usual, again due to the creamy consistency.

A flat foundation brush should work better than a kabuki brush. But when I used my fingers, I got this amazing natural finish despite the slight shade difference. The coverage is buildable and one layer gives a medium coverage when used with fingers or a sponge. I would say that this foundation is a medium to full coverage one.

It does look a little cakey when layered more than three times but I don’t think there is any need to go at it for more than two times. The finish is a matte but not flat one. There is still a glow and looks dewy and natural. It feels matte but looks extremely natural which I love. I hate the oily feeling some dewy foundations give. It feels as if nothing is on and it is extremely comfortable on the skin. It is perfectly suited for the weather conditions here in south India and can withstand the humidity.

On initial application it made me look a bit pale and washed out but after some time it oxidized and almost matched my skin tone. However, if I go beyond a layer it looks obvious that I do have foundation on, especially in photos mainly because the shade is light for me. I did not use a primer in the pics shown because I wanted you guys to see how the foundation performs on its own.

It does not accentuate pores and does a good job at masking marks. I have been breaking out recently and there are a lot of acne marks. You can clearly see what a good job the foundation has done of hiding them and making the skin look natural and flawless. It also covers up hyper-pigmentation and dark circles well. Since this has a slight pinkish tinge to it, it brightens up the whole face. It can be used as a concealer for target areas also as this is towards the thicker side.

Coming to the wear time, I applied it at 7 am over a primer and removed it at 6 pm. It performed well considering the fact that I was out in the hot and humid climate all day. It did wear off a bit, mainly on the areas I sweat a lot but my skin still looked good. There was no cakey look or creasing. I loved the way it applied throughout the day and I think it would be a good option for office goers and college girls.

My skin looks healthy and luminous and it did live up to its claims of hydrating the skin. I did not set this foundation with compact or setting powder as I did not want a heavy look. If you set it, it will last longer. I have extremely oily skin and it did well on me so I would say this foundation is suitable for all skin types. It did not irritate my skin or aggravate the acne.
