Sugar Blend The Rules Eyeshadow Palette Firework 02 Review, Swatches: Hey guys, Sugar Cosmetics has been releasing some amazing makeup back to back recently. I have been trying to keep pace with their launches but you know, buying-shipping-trying takes some time. Sugar’s eyeshadow palettes have been the talk of the makeup town for a while. Today, I am here to share a detailed review on the bigger palette called “Firework”.

Sugar Blend The Rules Eyeshadow Palette Firework 02 Review, Swatches

Please note that Sugar has come up with 18 quads and 2 of these bigger palettes. The bigger palettes are “Vogue” and “Firework”. All the shades in the 18 quads and combinations of shades from the 2 bigger palettes. So I guess if you have the bigger palette, you do not need the quads. On the other hand, you can pick up quads with your favourite shades in it. This way you will save some cash. Sometimes, we do not end up using all the shades in big eyeshadow palettes. Hence, quads are a great way to get those specific shades that you are going to use.

How to Use Sugar Blend The Rules Eyeshadow Palette Firework

  • The lightest colour usually works well as a brow bone highlighter.
  • The second lightest colour usually looks good on the lid and creates a base to apply the shade of your choice, matte or shimmer
  • The second darkest colour usually works best on the crease
  • The darkest colour usually works best in the outer corner

Application

  1. Start by taking a colour that is a shade or two darker than your skin tone and run it back and forth onto your crease as a transition shade
  2. Start blending at the point where you want the deepest colour, like the outer corner and aim toward the place where you want the lightest colour. By doing this, a gradient will be created by the colour choice alone
  3. Next go for the shimmer shade on the lid to get that pop. Use the doe-tip sponge applicator or a damp flat brush or your finger for that additional depth
  4. Use a darker shade on the crease to define the eye shape. Start applying from the outer corner of the eye, making a ‘V’, and blend it halfway through the eyelid with the round eyeshadow blending brush

In Detail Sugar Blend The Rules Eyeshadow Palette Firework 02 Review, Swatches and My Experience

The palette comes in a beautifully designed cardboard packaging with a magnetic closure. I would like to specially point out the graphic front design which I feel is very creative and unique. The palette is housed inside a black colour sleeve. This sleeve at the back has the necessary details like the place of manufacture as well as the complete ingredients list. Sugar has also provided a dual ended applicator brush inside. One side has a sponge tip while the other side has a nice round blending brush. Therefore the packaging according to me is quite nice.

Formula, Texture, Pigmentation

The shadows in the palette have some incredible formula to be honest. They are super finely milled with an ultra soft feel. The texture is extremely smooth. There are hardly any fall outs from any of the shadows. I do have to say, I like the pigmentation of the shimmer shades more than the mattes. All shimmers perform brilliantly well. However, I had a few troubles with a couple of matte shades. I will discuss all that under the individual shades description below.

Sugar Blend The Rules Eyeshadow Palette Firework – Individual Shades Description

Because the shades are not assigned any names, we will number them as per the picture below when we talk about them. This way it will be easier for us to refer to the shades individually.

Top Row – Mattes

1st Shade – This is a medium neutral n*de shade with slight mauve undertones. This shade is super smooth and silky. With zero fallouts, this shade I feel is the perfect transition shade for any eye makeup. It blends very nicely.

2nd Shade – A medium – deep brown with the same amazing formula and texture as the 1st shade. Blends like a dream. This shade is your perfect brown eyeshadow. You can create a variety of looks with this. It shows up well on the skin and hence would suit almost all skin tones.

3rd Shade – This shade looks brighter in the pan. But on the skin, it is a perfect indigo blue shade. Blues and purples are harder to create when it comes to eyeshadows. May be that is why, the texture and pigmentation of this shade wasn’t as amazing as the previous 2 shades. I had to swatch 3 times over to build up the pigmentation as shown in the swatches. The formula isn’t as smooth and soft. Also, this is slightly difficult to blend. The only amazing thing about this is its shade which is a bold and stunning blue.

4th Shade – This is a taupe based ash grey shade. The formula and texture is super smooth and silky. The pigmentation is amazing. This is the perfect dark smokey eyes shade I feel.

5th Shade – This is a very deep plum shade that swatches okay. I mean again the texture of this shade isn’t too smooth. Its slightly patchy on swatching. However, if you take your time working it, it does look nice. It blends okay. Not as good as the other good matte ones.

Bottom Row – Shimmers

6th Shade – A beautiful medium bronze shade. This has excellent frostiness to it. Its intensely pigmented with an amazing smooth texture. It does have minimal fall out, but nothing bothersome. I love this shade. You can just apply it all over the lids, put a liner and mascara – and you’re done with a holiday eye makeup look.

7th Shade – A copper based gold shade. Again this has all the good qualities of 6th shade. In addition, this has zero fall outs. A super pretty shade that would look good on all skin tones.

8th Shade – A medium metallic lavender purple shade. This is one of my favourites from the palette. It is a pretty unique shade. It has an amazing smooth texture with good pigmentation. If you’re obsessed with purples like me, you will definitely love this shade.

9th Shade – A super frosty rose gold with significant pink undertones. Again, amazing formula with excellent pigmentation as well as colour pay off.

10th Shade – This is a muted dark olive green with a lovely metallic finish. This is a unique shade as well. Super pigmented with amazing formula as well as texture.

Wearability, Staying Power

As aforementioned, except a couple of shades, almost all shades have zero fall outs and blend amazingly well. All the shimmers are totally upto the mark. You can create so many looks with these shades. The reason I picked “Firework” palette and not the “Vogue” palette is because Vogue had almost all neutral shades. However Firework has neutrals as well as some amazing bold and stunning shades as well. The eyeshadows in the palette stay on my lids for around 6 hours without fading.

Overall Verdict

I feel Sugar has done a great job with Firework palette. It has excellent combination of shades. You can create innumerable looks with it. There is a transition, neutrals, bolds, metallics. A wholesome palette for shades as well as finishes. This palette is totally worth it if you’re into creating different eyes makeup looks. Totally recommend it.

  1. This palette looks so pretty. I seriously love the artwork on the front. I am thinking of getting some quads now. Do you know any quad which has this blue shade in it? Sugar cosmetics new launches are really amazing.

    • Totally, I think Sugar is coming up with lovely products recently. Their quads – Disturbia 06, Diamonds 09, Waterfalls 10 and Skyfall 14 – all these have the matte blue shade. 🙂
