In Detail SUGAR Matte As Hell Crayon Lipstick Rose Dawson 05 Review, Swatches and My Experience

The Sugar Cosmetics Crayon lipstick comes in a slim, cute cardboard box which has all the necessary details provided such as the shade name, ingredients list, manufacturing, expiry dates etc. Inside the box we see a cute little pencil inside which is matte and black in colour with the brand name written on it. I seriously adore the packaging. But the only downside is we have to manually sharpen it. Now I particularly don’t like sharpening as it leads to product wastage. However, the good thing is sugar crayon lipstick comes with a sharpener in the package.

Coming on to the shades, the Sugar Matte As Hell Crayon Lipstick is available in 5 gorgeous shades i.e. Scarlett O’ Hara (Red), Mary Poppins (Fuchsia), Poison Ivy (Wine), Holly Golightly (Nude) & Rose Dawson (Rose Pink). However, I really hope they come up with more shades in the range.

The sugar matte as hell lip crayon in shade Rose Dawson is a beautiful rosy pink shade. I didn’t have any such shade in my vanity so it’s completely different and unique shade. The lipstick is extremely pigmented. In one swipe I get fully opaque coverage on the lips. The texture of the lipstick is extremely soft and buttery. It glides on very easily on the lips without tugging and pulling. It settles into a beautiful matte finish. I have noticed a bit of silver shimmer in the lipstick. However the shimmer present in it is not visible on the lips. Its subtle and only obvious when I look at the pigment closely.

The lipstick is very comfortable to wear. I don’t get any patchy or cracky feeling after I apply it. This shade is suitable for ladies with fair as well as wheatish to medium complexions. Unfortunately I don’t find this shade working for beauties with more dusky skin tones as the lipstick will wash them out because it does have some cooler undertones.

Coming on the last part of the lipstick, the sugar matte as hell lip crayon in shade Rose Dawson stayed on my lips for good 6-7 hours after that it started fading. The lipstick transfers a bit once or twice but otherwise once it sets, it doesn’t transfer much.

MBF Advises

1) To increase the staying power of the lipstick apply a matching lipliner before filling in the lipstick.
2) Use a good makeup remover to remove the lipstick because it stains the lips a bit.
4) If you have dry lips use a lip balm underneath matte lipsticks.

  2. hi, i want to know is this shade similar to Pout time lipstick breaking bare? Here in swatches its looking very much similar.

    • Hi Naina, the shade Breaking bare is more neutral and has mauve undertones to it. It’s subtle and won’t look bright on the skin. It can be worn as my lips but better shade and will suit all skin tones equally.

However this shade Rose Dawson is more rose-pink with cool undertones. This one will be very noticeable on the skin. It will suit more light or light to medium skin tones. Also, Rose dawson is more matte than breaking bare when it comes to texture.

    • I agree with Astha. Both are different shades rose Dawson is a rosy pink shade and will suit wheatish to medium skin. Whereas breaking bare is more of a neutral shade.
