The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid Lipstick Tahiti Hibiscus Review, Swatches: Hey guys, let’s talk about a matte liquid lipstick today from The Body Shop. TBS has a total of 12 shades in this range. I already talked about the shade Sydney Amaryllis sometime back. Today, I am going to go through the shade Tahiti Hibiscus which is another red from the range. I love red lipsticks and I think every new range that launches in the market, I first gravitate to their reds. I do wear other colours of course, but reds are like my jam!

In Detail The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid Lipstick Tahiti Hibiscus Review, Swatches and My Experience
The liquid lipstick comes in a clear acrylic tube with a matte black cap. The applicator is a classic doe foot applicator with a long wand, nothing out of the box. I really wish the applicator was slightly softer than it is.
If you look at the labels closely, you will notice that this lipstick is “Made in China” and “Manufactured by The Body Shop International”. This means that the actual lipstick is indeed manufactured in China. I know that all the products in the Chinese market are animal tested, however, TBS highly claims that their products are not. I wonder how do they work their way around this.
Moving on, like I mentioned, there are a total of 12 shades currently launched in India. They have a sweet smell to them almost like a sweet berry syrup. The scent is actually not very strong and fades away easily after application. Please note that this is an added fragrance as per the ingredients list.
Formula, Texture, Pigmentation
I love the formula of the lipstick. Its velvety soft and smooth. The formula feels super light weight on the lips. Not exactly mousse like though. If you have used NYX soft matte lip creams, the formula of this lipstick is pretty much comparable to those. Pigmentation wise, I have to say these fail to impress me. TBS Matte Lip lipstick applies almost 70% opaque in a single swipe. I have to go over at least 3 times to make it look proper. If you have pigmented lips, you definitely cannot do without layering it up. Also, I hate the fact that this does not apply evenly. This tends to go patchy at some places which looks quite weird up close.
Shade The Body Shop Liquid Lipstick Tahiti Hibiscus
This shade is a super gorgeous cool toned red which will suit literally every skin tone. The shade pretty much goes with everything you wear. Its classy as well as casual. If you’re a collector of amazing shades of red lipsticks, you are very likely to love this shade.
The lipstick is quite easy to apply as it glides on the lips smoothly. You have to be careful around the margins because this formula is silicone based and its easy to go out of the margin in such formulas. In fact the lipstick does go patchy during the first application or first layer. Hence, I always need to layer it up to make it look even. Then I notice that it tends to deposit more pigment in particular areas and also moves upon layering. Therefore, I really have to spend sometime trying to make it look even and crisp. It takes close to 4 minutes to set. The surprising part is, it goes on thicker but ironically dries down less opaque. So these aren’t the most full coverage lipsticks.
Finish, Wearability, Transferability, Staying Power
The Body Shop liquid lipstick has a velvety matte finish. It does not dry out the lips through the wear time. Therefore, it feels quite comfortable on the lips. The lipstick almost feels like nothing on the lips because its super light weight. These do however transfer on objects. But even though this transfers, it doesn’t turn sheer easily. It stays on my lips for around 3 to 4 hours before fading. So always touch it up every 3 to 4 hours. Also, if you have dry lips be careful because this does tend to settle around dry areas after 3 to 4 hours.
How to Remove?
The lipstick ain’t hard to remove. I usually use almost oil to take it off and it works perfectly. You can also try using makeup removers. Even drugstore makeup removers will work great in removing the lipstick. So you don’t have to worry as far as removal of the lipstick is concerned.
I feel these lipsticks are quite nice for someone who loves to wear matte shades. I do feel that the formula needs improvement in terms of application and staying power. The most difficult part of using this lipstick is the application part because if you do not apply this properly, it tends to go patchy and settle in dry areas of the lips. Therefore I won’t say these are the best liquid lipsticks out there in the market. However they are quite nice if you’re looking for a comfortable velvety matte formula in lipsticks. If TBS could only make them less patchy, more pigmented and better lasting, I would have completely loved these. Therefore overall, I am not totally gaga in love with this, neither am I very disappointed.

PROs of The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid Lipstick Tahiti Hibiscus
1. I like the packaging.
2. Super light weight as well as comfortable velvety matte formula.
3. The silicone based formula glides on the lips smoothly.
4. I love this shade, its a cool toned medium red.
5. Does not have a strong smell.
6. Not tested on animals (I hope because these are made in China and China laws enforce animal testing of cosmetics before selling it in the market. But if those cosmetics are directly exported and not sold in China, then I guess they don’t need to test on animals. Its a very shady topic when we talk about cosmetics manufactured in China being cruelty free.)
