Deepika Padukone is one of the most adorable actresses I have ever come across. She carries herself so well that everyone is bound to get inspired by her. I really love her down to earth attitude and dedication towards whatever she does. I know there are a lot of people out there who might go a little jello of her, but hey, let’s keep all that aside and learn from her. She didn’t rise to fame overnight. Like many filmstars, she too had some years of struggling in her pocket.
This article is going to be a little longer than our usual because I did a lot of research and covered everything about Deepika’s Beauty regime. I felt like its really important for us to take inspiration from someone who is possibly a role model for a lot of girls. I have included mostly Deepika’s words in this article so that you know exactly how she feels and wants to convey it. Enjoy 🙂
Deepika Padukone Beauty Regime – Hair, Skin, Makeup, Fitness and Diet
Born on January 5th 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark; She is the elder daughter of Prakash Padukone, an international level badminton player hailing from Padukone village near Udupi district of Karnataka. Deepika is the elder child. The younger daughter is Anisha Padukone who is a professional golf player. So yes she has her family full of sports persons. In fact, Deepika’s grandfather Ramesh Padukone, was the Secretary of the “Mysore Badminton Association” for many years. So it won’t come as a surprise when I tell you that all throughout the school years, she played badminton and even competed at national levels. According to an interview in 2012, Deepika says “I would wake up at five in the morning, go for physical training, go to school, again go for playing badminton, finish my homework and go to sleep.”
However in the later parts of her school life when she was in 10th grade, she realised what she wanted and chose a career in modelling. Deepika explains “I realised that I was playing the game only because it ran in the family. So, I asked my father if I could give up the game and he wasn’t upset at all.”
Although she had done some work as a child model, she first came into focus where she did an ad for “Liril soap”. Soon she appeared in Lakme Fashion Week walking for designer Sunnet Varma. The first big screen debut was in Himesh Reshamiya’s music video “Naam Hai Tera”. We need not mention how now her career is shinning like a diamond. Deepika was awarded the honour of being named “India’s most beautiful woman” in People magazine, 2012. Currently she is one of the highest paid actresses in Bollywood and is now working for her Hollywood dubut “XXX: The Return of Xander Cage”.
Deepika has naturally wavy to curly hair. She mostly keeps her hair long. Being an actress she has to travel a lot and all of us know what it can do the hair. So Deepika likes to go for a oil massage. According to her “Coconut oil massages have always worked for my hair. It’s been my mantra for taking care of my hair since childhood. True dadi ma ka nuskha.” Besides this she also believes that eating healthy can do wonders for hair health.
Deepika has a flawless dusky skin tone. She is one example that you don’t have to be white to be beautiful. She believes that good amount of hydration is essential for flawless skin. She drinks a lot of water everyday to keep her skin looking fresh and supple. Secondly, she also is known for taking frequent spas. She says “Almost every week, I take a relaxing body massage with lukewarm coconut oil or baby oil. It relaxes and rejuvenates me like nothing else.” She regularly does go for steam baths and body massages.
Cleansing, Toning and Moisturising are a necessary part of any girl’s skin care regime and so it with Deepika. She likes to use mild soaps – “I use products that are mild and do not strip my skin of essential proteins.” “Healthy skin needs mild cleansing, for which I use gentle soaps. I use products that are mild. Rather than regular facials, I indulge in clean-up sessions once in a while. As a ritual, I enjoy a body massage with lukewarm coconut or baby oil twice a week, if my schedule permits”
For moisturising “During the daytime, I use a moisturizer with an SPF. At night, I use a deep conditioning moisturizer.”
Deepika spoke about the importance of sunscreen “I use plenty of sunscreen because prevention is better than cure. Many people are unaware of the effects of the sun on their skin and if I had to pick a product I use the most, it would have to be my sunscreen. And I always carry more than one bottle of it, in case I lose one, if I am traveling”. So ladies, take it from anyone who knows about skin, sunscreen is one product that you can never miss.
Deepika believes in the fact that makeup enhances the looks and does not change it completely. She has appeared in front of camera without makeup on various incidences. She suggests using minimal makeup if one has a flawless skin.
She is very particular about her eye makeup though. She frequently stresses upon taking care of eyebrows. “Eyebrows are very important,” Deepika says. “If you have the right thickness and shape, I feel they define your face.” Over drawing or over thinning, both can prove to be very disastrous. She mentions “What many tend to do is go to a salon and keep threading and threading the brows, and one day they’re left with pencil thin eyebrows.” Speaking to vogue, she said “Thicker eyebrows make you look younger” ”People have the tendency to look straight into the camera, but a little profile always looks nicer,” adding a little tip to camera lovers.
Deepika loves to use mascara. “I take care to highlight only one feature at a time when applying make-up, either eyes or lips and never both. I love to use taupe and brown eye shadows, because with these shades I can sometimes risk coloring my lips with darker shades such as reds or plums. It is more important to understand the difference between day and night looks and makeup accordingly.” She likes to go with the mantra of putting on mute lips with bold smokey eyes and vice versa.
Deepika’s Signature Look
Deepika’s signature look is red lipstick with well defined lips and a classic winged eyeliner with soft smokey eyes. Of course add quite a bit of mascara to that. She likes to dress trendy and casual.
Deepika’s fitness advisor is Yasmin Karachiwala. Her fitness mantra is “Eat healthy, eat correctly, eat often”.
Deepika does not consider size zero to be healthy.
Like I mentioned above, Deepika has been involved in sports since childhood so naturally her athletic build has come over years of hard work and training. She believes in healthy eating and not starving. “It’s more about eating healthy, eating correctly and eating often.” She does not believe in following an extreme work out schedule “People are generally two extremes, either they don’t workout at all or they workout every single day,” she says, “But I think it’s important to maintain a balance. It’s important to give your body that time to rest and recover.”
She follows a quite balanced and healthy work out regime which includes Gym, Yoga, Walking and Dancing. Deepika does not goto the gym everyday. She does more of pilates and free hand exercises. Yoga is her everyday morning routine. After yoga she walks on a treadmill for 10 to 20 minutes. When she does not feel like exercising, she chooses to go for dancing. “I do a lot of free-hand weights and 4 to 5 sets of stretching exercises with 20 reps, in between Pilates or stretching routines, ” Her trainer Yasmin says “Pilates has done wonders on Deepika’s body and she uses a combination of yoga and strength to tighten the core muscles of the body and relaxes the mind. It creates leaner muscle, stability and strength with a focus on building core strength by engaging balance, correct breathing technique and a smooth flow of movement. For Pilates, we used equipment such as reformer, cadillac, wunda chair and mat.”
Overall Deepika prefers outdoor activities over gymming. She likes to play badminton, cycling and trekking. “My crazy side comes out when I am in action.”
Deepika’s dietician is Pooja Makhija. Deepika loves food and enjoys all types of cuisines. Chocolates and thai food tempt her big time. “I’m too much of a foody. I love eating and I love trying out different types of cuisines but I will balance it out like I make sure that when I’m in Bombay I’m disciplined because I know that my job requires me to travel a lot and when I travel, it obviously means eating food from outside. So what I do then to balance it out is to make sure that when I’m in Bombay, I eat home food as often as possible. If I’m going to shoot I will make sure my maid packs the dabba for me in the morning. I will carry some fruits with me and I will snack on that through the day and so when I do go out and I have a dinner…. If I eat out or if I have a dessert…. then that’s not something I have to worry about… so balanced”.
Her fitness trainer Yasmin says “We recently discovered Quinoa, a carbohydrate substitute high in protien and fiber which has worked wonders for Deepika”
Deepika follows a well balanced homemade diet mostly. She eats her meals in moderation. She likes to snack on fresh fruits or almonds. She does eat some fresh fruits or has fruit juices every 2 to 3 hours to keep her body hydrated and energised.
Final Words from Deepika
“I think something very important that I have learnt is to have ‘me’ time. So whenever I finish shoot I think I enjoy spending time with myself….. real quiet time, listen to music, maybe go to the gym, go for a swim and also try and get as much sleep as possible, eat healthy and just be positive and lead a healthy life style”,
