In Detail NYX Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer Review, Swatches and My Experience

NYX Angel Veil Makeup Primer comes in a white coloured opaque tube with a glossy pink screw top. The packaging is very similar to the NYX Pore Filler Makeup Primer. However, do note that pore filler has 20 mL of product whereas Angel Veil contains 30 mL of product. The tube has a fine hole through which the product can be squeezed out as per need. I find the packaging convenient to use. Its travel friendly as well as compact. This primer is oil free. Hence, I thought this would be great because I have combination skin. I tend to get oily around my T zone very often. Therefore, when I saw an oil free primer, I knew I had to get it.

Appearance, Texture, Formula

When I squeeze out the primer, it comes out as a white cream. To be honest, I thought this would be transparent. However, this primer is white in colour. It has a very nice velvety, mousse like texture to it. This primer is not slippery or silicone like which is great. It definitely never feels oily or greasy at all. The formula of the primer is really light weight. When I apply it, it does not feel like I have a ton of product on my skin. I usually apply primer after my daily skin serum. This primer never makes me look oily. You have to make sure that you blend it really well though. If you do not blend it enough, it might leave a slight white cast on the skin. So make sure to keep blending till it matches well with the skin.

How I Use it

I have been using this primer a lot lately. In fact, I think this is the only primer I have used since a couple of weeks now. I usually take a small pea sized amount of the primer and work it on my facial skin. I suggest not using a lot of it. So start with a little bit and then adjust according to how much you need. After applying the primer, I wait for a minute so that it can perform whatever magic it wants to 😀 Then I apply my foundation.

Effects

The primer so far has been working amazing for my skin. It mattifies as well as smoothens out the skin. I do not have a lot of open pores, but this definitely blurs out the tiny ones around my nose area. With this primer, my foundation applies smoothly and evenly. I love how this makes the base makeup look flawless. This primer makes my foundation last upto 7+ hours without me getting oily. My T zone may look dewy but it didn’t turn oily like it used to. Therefore, I am very impressed.

I have seen a lot of people complain that Nyx angel veil does not work with some foundations. I think its quite obvious. This primer is an oil free primer. Therefore I believe its legit that it doesn’t work with oil based foundations. If you try to use an oil based product, with an oil free product, they obviously will not work well together. I have used this primer with my NYX HD photogenic foundation, Nyx stay matte foundation as well as with some other foundations. So far, I haven’t faced any troubles. So if you’re facing an issue on similar lines, try using a different foundation, an oil free one with this primer.

Is NYX Angel Veil a Dupe for Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer?

I have used both these primers. I honestly think while the NYX primer may be similar to the Hourglass primer in a lot of aspects, they are definitely not the same. For similarities, they do have the same velvety texture and matte finish. They minimise the appearance of pores as well as make the foundations last upto 7 to 8 hours. Both are able to control my T zone well. Now, speaking of the differences, Nyx primer is a tiny bit thicker in consistency. With Hourglass primer, you need lesser amount of primer per usage. Also, hourglass primer blends in more easily than the nyx primer. Lastly, the hourglass primer has an SPF 15 in it whereas the nyx one does not.

Hence overall, NYX is pretty similar to the hourglass veil primer in terms of performance. So, I would rather spend $16 than $54 (both 30 mL). NYX is more easily available. Although you need to blend it more and other things, at the end of the day, what matters is performance. And these two perform well as far as my makeup is concerned.

Overall verdict

NYX Angel Veil primer is undoubtedly one of the best primers out there. I have tried a lot of primers in the past but this performs so much like the high end ones. I think I might repurchase this if I have to because I really like it. If you’re someone with oily/combination skin, you should totally check this out. Even dry skin beauties will enjoy this as long as you make sure you moisturise your skin well beforehand.

MBF Advises

1. Make sure to shake up the NYX primer tube before using because sometimes it has a tendency to separate.
2. Take a small quantity first. You do not need to put a thick layer of the primer on the skin.
3. Blend the primer really well to avoid any white casts.
4. Remember, this usually works well with oil free foundations in general. Hence, if it doesn’t work with a certain foundation, make sure to try it out with a couple of others before coming to a conclusion.
5. Always shut the cap tightly after using it.
