In Detail Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Face Wash with Salicylic Acid Review and My Experience
The product comes in a transparent pump bottle. Pump dispensers are very easy to use in the bathroom so I always prefer them over flip top bottles. Another good thing is, it pumps out just enough product for single time use in one push. Hence, I really like it. They mention all details about the product on the backside including a full list of ingredients.
It is an amber coloured product. The consistency is medium, not too thin or thick. Texture is somewhat like a creamy gel. It smells really fresh. The face wash foams up really nice with water. Most of the products in market have very less salicylic acid. But this one has 2% salicylic acid which is amazing for acne prone skin. However, this also means that is will be drying on the skin. Hence, I always use a good non comedogenic moisturiser after washing my face with this.
How I Use it
I use it everyday twice. Once in the morning and next when I come back from work in the evening. Just one pump is enough to wash my entire face and neck region. However you can adjust the quantity as per your own requirement. The face wash gives good lather and I am able to take off whatever makeup is remaining on my face. .
Effects
The face wash gives my skin a thorough deep cleanse. Like it literally removes every small bits and traces of impurities from my skin. Small breakouts are actually taken care of by this face wash only. For these tiny breakouts, I don’t even have to use a spot treatment because this face wash is able to dry them out effectively.
However, all these amazing results of this face wash come at a cost. It dries out my skin. But where there is a will, there is a way! So to neutralise the drying effect of this face wash, I use a good moisturising cream which is non comedogenic. This way, I get the good effects of the face wash and at the same time avoid the drying effect on my skin. One more thing I want to add is, this product is able to remove light makeup only. So do not expect this to remove heavy makeup like mascara etc.
Overall Verdict
Overall I honestly think this is a great face wash for acne prone skin. Even if you have oily or combination skin type, this face wash will prove wonderful. It works really good for my skin. It dries out breakouts as well as keeps new breakouts at check. Just by itself, it is able to control mild breakouts. I have been using this face wash for 3 months now and I am sure I will be going back and purchasing this again. It works great and does not burn a hole in the pocket, so its totally worth it.
Pros of Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash
1. Pump dispenser is easy and convenient to use.
2. Foams up good.
3. Deep cleanses the skin.
4. Removes light makeup also.
5. Dries out mild acne.
6. Prevents new breakouts.
7. I feel its good for all skin types. Just make sure to moisturise nicely according to your skin type.
8. Not very expensive.
Cons of Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash
1. You may feel its overdrying the skin if you don’t moisturise afterwards.
2. Does not take care of permanent acne. For that, you would need other treatments besides just a face wash. A face wash might help though in preventing new breakouts.
3. I wish they make smaller sizes for travel purposes.
MBF Advises
1. I know I am saying this a lot, but moisturise your skin after using this.
2. Try to use less makeup when you have active breakouts.
3. Use non comedogenic moisturisers if you have acne prone skin like mine.
4. For severe or cystic acne, you must consult a dermatologist. Because to properly deal with it, a doctor can guide you best.
