Bioderma Sebium Serum Purifying Concentrate Gentle Peel Review: I am a big fan of Bioderma Sebium products. The company is so steeped in research that each one of its products is scientifically formulated to deliver best possible results. I also have problem skin, and if I have to be honest, did consider chemical peeling at one time to get rid of blemishes and acne scars. But didn’t have the courage to take the plunge really.

In Detail Bioderma Sebium Serum Purifying Concentrate Gentle Peel Review, Swatches and My Experience

So this product is a chemical exfoliant, that is made up of 15% glycolic acid. Chemical exfoliants remove the dead cells of the top of the skin – just like a scrub – but only work deeper and also don’t involve any rubbing/ scrubbing and don’t have beads/ granules.

The Bioderma Sébium Sérum Purifying Concentrate Gentle Peel comes in a thick plastic bottle that has a nozzle to dispense the right amount of product. The bottle is opaque to keep the glycolic acid reacting to light since it is extremely photosensitive. The product is clear and has a very runny consistency (almost watery) that one has to apply after cleansing and toning. Bioderma Sébium Sérum is a renewal treatment for skin that has suffered from acne and now has post acne marks.

The product soaks in well. It will sting on any broken skin – be careful! I have been using this product for a month now and it definitely has helped even my skin tone and reduce acne scars by almost 40%.

How I Use it

I apply a very small amount on my face in the night after cleansing. After applying the product, let it set for 30-60 seconds, then you can apply your regular moisturizer.
I wash it off first thing in the morning by splashing my face 2-3 times with tepid water and apply sunscreen immediately thereafter – even if I am not going out anywhere.

Effects of Bioderma Sébium Sérum Purifying Concentrate Gentle Peel

Bioderma Sébium Sérum is an intensive care that corrects imperfections, smoothes and improves the appearance and texture of skin. Initially, I used it on stubborn acne and spots only – for two consecutive nights and it did work like magic. I applied a thick blob on the affected area and when it had dried – there was a ‘peeling effect’ that pulled out the goo from the pimple.

After a month of using it twice a week, my skin texture was visibly better. The red acne scars went away in about 4-5 applications. Acne scars are very frequent and often remain on the skin for a very long time. This glycolic acid treatment has a concentration of 15% and has an immediate peeling effect to help boost cellular renovation and helps to fight ageing signs on oily skin. D-panthenol has a soothing effect and also has anti-inflammatory properties, in order to reduce redness associated with peelings. The FluidActiv patent helps to improve sebum quality and production, to help maintain a non-comedogenic environment and a shine-free complexion. The dark stubborn pits are fading gradually. Also, fine lines around my mouth are all but gone!

Who needs a dermatologist when you can have almost the same results within the comfort of your home! I am in love with this product.

Final words

A word of caution – this product can be very drying to your skin if you put it on a normal skin area so be careful, this is meant for oily/combo skin and NOT dry skin. Also, please please please use sunscreen throughout the course of using this product. Glycolic acid reacts to light and can actually increase blemishes and pigmentation instead of reducing them if you are not careful.

MBF Advises

Glycolic acid, a key ingredient in this product, is photosensitive. This means it can cause sun damage or spots and blemishes if you use this during the day or expose yourself to sun the next day after using this product. So it is better to use it only at night and reduce the number of applications during the summer. Please also use a sunscreen with SPF of at least 50 when you are using this serum.
