In Detail Plum Candy Melts Vegan Lip Balm Red Velvet Love Review and My Experience

The Plum Candy Melts Lip Balm comes with an outer carton box. Looks very pretty with the colour of the box corresponding to the variant of the lip balm. It has a complete list of ingredients mentioned along with almost all the pieces of information related to the product. The lip balm itself comes in a tiny little translucent plastic tub with a white screw top. A couple of stickers at the top and bottom of the tub to tell you the variant it is. I actually picked up two variants of lip balms from them. Today I am talking about the “Red Velvet Love” and I will talk about the other “Mint-o-coco” in a future post.

So when you open the tub, the product looks like this really pretty bright red coloured soft balm. It smells delicious, reminds of the sweetness from the red velvet cake (not really the tartness of the cream cheese though). When you touch it, it really does have a soft balmy consistency and a really smooth texture. This consistency is due to hydrogenated soyabean oil in it which gives it the semi-solid soft state.

I actually am really impressed with the fact that they have placed castor seed oil as the number one ingredient in the list. Which (I hope) means that castor seed oil is most abundant ingredient in the product, more than the hydrogenated soyabean oil (just acts as an occlusive agent besides being the viscosity regulator, and it is extremely inexpensive).

Other than the above two major ingredients, the others in the list are in lesser quantities and you have various plant derived oils/waxes. In the end, they have put vitamin E andPentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxycinnamate (both act as antioxidants, for the product per se; not for your skin) and sucralose (a humectant and it gives the lip balm the intense sweetness that it has, besides the “flavour”).

So, now that we’re done dissecting the ingredients list 😀 , let’s move on to the performance of the product.

How I Use it & Effects

I don’t use lipsticks as often as I use lip balms because I am always wearing a face mask while I am at work in the hospital. I use the lip balm in the morning and nigh time daily. It applies really nicely and feels nourishing. You will surely taste it a little bit, and its very sweet.

What I have noticed after using it for over 10 days now is that its deeply hydrating. It definitely helps repair dry lips, but it is not going to heal very dry or chapped lips overnight. It feels so nice and moisturising on the lips that you would always want it on your lips. The best ever part about this lip balm is the fact that it is absolutely non sticky. Like you press the lips together or blow a kiss, your lips do not feel like sticking to each other even the least bit. They just feel soft and moisturised.

Oh and before I forget, let me talk about the tint. Plum says “Red Velvet Love” has the most amount of tint among their vegan lip balms. But honestly, you only see the tint in the jar or when you apply a considerably thick layer. In general, when you use a thin layer the tint shows up very slightly which is a good thing for me.

Overall Verdict

I feel like that is quite literally in the ivy leagues of lip balms in India. Its made out of natural ingredients and is amazingly moisturising. I understand that it does not target any specific lip issues but in general for daily use, this is really good. Just remember to use clean fingers while applying the product always.

It can also be used under lipsticks because of the incredible non sticky texture. I have used a very thin layer of this often under matter lipsticks and it works well.

CONs of Plum Candy Melts Vegan Lip Balm Red Velvet Love

  1. The tint does not really show up specially if you have even the least bit pigmented lips. (May not be exactly an issue if you’re not looking for a tint in your lip balm to begin with).
  2. The tub packaging might be an issue for beauties who are in particular concerned about hygiene. (Personally I don’t really mind it unless I have super dry lips and I need to apply my lip balm frequently.)

MBF Advises

  1. If you want a tinted lip balm, this particular variant “Red Velvet Cake” is the most tinted/pigmented of the 4 under their Candy Melts Lip Balms range.
  2. Store it in the fridge if you’re someone like me who loves the “thanda thanda” feeling on the lips. (Also, it keeps the product fresher).
  3. Always look for deals and discounts. Saving money is genius.

MBF Rating

4.5/5 (I wish it was more pigmented).

  1. I agree, I have the melon wala version of it. It’s nice but staying power is a disappointment for me. Like I like the consistency, but because of that may be it doesn’t stay for long. I have to keep applying it every 2 hours or so.

    • I mean, if they made it thicker, may be it would have stayed longer. However the other way is true as well. Also, I feel like even the best ones out there hardly stay for more than 2-3 hours without eating or drinking anything. So at this price tag, being non sticky and being able to survive for around 2 hours is a big thumbs up from me. <3
