In Detail Maybelline 24K Nudes Eyeshadow Palette Review, Swatches and My Experience

Packaging of this palette is exactly like the other palettes by Maybelline from the same range. Just the colour theme here is golden brown. Its still made of plastic with a see through hinged top. There is a dual sponge tip applicator provided with the palette which quite honestly I never use. I wish they provided a proper shader brush or something similar which women today actually use for applying their eyeshadows. All the product details are written on the back of the packaging. Maybelline says one can use the shades as duos, trios or quads. However, you can totally pick your own shades to create the eye look you want.

Texture, Pigmentation

I remember Maybelline announced they are reformulating their n*des palettes and this one was going to have the new formula. Hence, I was very excited. I mean I didn’t really fall in love with the formula of the other maybelline n*des palettes. The eyeshadows in this palette do in fact have a slightly better formula. However, I wouldn’t say they still stand upto the mark. Texture wise, some shades are really nice and smooth. However others can have a lot of fallouts. So quite a lot of inconsistencies as far as the formula of the shadows is concerned in the same palette. Speaking of pigmentation, I have to say I am not overjoyed. This has medium pigmentation on an average. Some deeper shades offer good colour pay off, however the lighter shades in general do not perform well.

Individual Shades Description of Maybelline The 24k Nudes Eyeshadow Palette

Top Row

1st Shade – A light frosty shade with hints of baby pink. Disappointed with the colour pay off pigmentation here.
2nd Shade – Deep burnt sienna brown with intense pigmentation. This one actually goes on quite well.
3rd Shade – Slightly frosty beige with average pigmentation. This one honestly doesn’t even show up properly unless layered twice or thrice.
4th Shade – A mild frosty champagne shade. Shows up slightly when layered twice.
5th Shade – A matte light cream shade. This has okay pigmentation.
6th Shade – The only proper gold shade in the 24k palette. This has slightly better pigmentation than the rest. This one is actually quite satiny with almost no fall outs.

Bottom Row

7th Shade – Again a matte beige shade. This one hardly shows up to be honest.
8th Shade – This is a bronze-brown with hints of shimmers.
9th Shade – A deep dirty olive green. This one has better pigmentation with great texture.
10th Shade – A deep brown which almost appears black on swatches. Average pigmentation.
11th Shade – This is a bronze shade with the same metallic sheen to it as the gold shade. This one is very smooth with zero fall outs.
12th Shade – The final shade in the palette is a shimmery black (Not jet black though). Basically there are silver shimmers spread onto a matte black base. The shimmers here do travel around and tend to cause fall outs.

Wearability, Staying Power

The shadows definitely need a good quality primer underneath. Without a primer, these do not have a fair wear time. However, a decent primer sure increases their wear time. Hence, the staying power as well as wearability pretty much depends on if you’re wearing a primer underneath or not. Without a primer, these hardly last for about 3 hours on my lids. However with a primer, they do stay put for approximately 5+ hours. I specially gravitate towards more pigmented and slightly deeper shades. Not a fan of the matte shades in this palette.

Overall Verdict

Some shades are pretty amazing like the 6th as well as the 11th one. However some others do have significant powder kickbacks and fall outs. Therefore, although this palette isn’t something that I would call perfect, I still would place it amongst acceptable drugstore eyeshadow palettes. The 24k palette is no doubt an improvement in terms of formula as compared to the previous Nudes palettes by Maybelline. However it needs to improve further more in order to meet the standards of some of the best drugstore palettes. If you’re a beginner, you may sure invest in this palette. Please make sure you have a good primer to go with it.

MBF Advises

1. Goes without saying, if you’re buying this palette make sure to get a good primer.
2. Set the eye base properly before using shadows from this palette.
3. Try to pack the pigments for better colour pay off.
4. Use good quality brushes for optimum performance.
5. You can always build the colours and layer them up for more intensity. Also, make sure to blend nicely with a light hand because some shades in the palette sheer out significantly on blending.
