Mamaearth Gentle Cleansing Shampoo For Babies Review: Hi! Today we are talking about this baby shampoo by mamaearth. The brand Mamaearth is rather new to my ears. When it comes to baby products, most common names that pop up in my head are Johnson and Johnson, Himalaya or may be Chicco. But Mamaearth is a new name to me. Hence, when someone suggested mamaearth products to me, I was a little skeptical at first.

Then, I asked for a suggestion related to baby massage on a facebook group. There were a lot of responses and most women suggested mamaearth products (although I had clearly mentioned that I use almond oil for massage).

Later I realised, most women in that group were being compensated for suggesting mamaearth products online. Anyways, I still went ahead and ordered. I do not take compensation from any brand for twisted reviews. I know what it feels like to be a new mama to a beautiful delicate child. So here’s my unbiased opinion on this product.

Key Ingredients in Mamaearth Gentle Cleansing Shampoo For Babies

Purified Water, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Isothionate, Disodium Cocoamphoacetate, Panthenol, Aloevera Extract, Calendula Extracts, Vegetable Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate & Lavender essential oil, Enriched with our Secret Mama’s Love oil

Now! First, the list isn’t complete because they say this is the “Key Ingredients” list. This means there are other ingredients whcih they have not mentioned. Also, please note the last part in the ingredients – “Enriched with secret mama’s love oil.” This part bothers me a lot.

Why can’t they mention the full ingredients list at least for baby products. I mean, which mom wouldn’t want to know what they are putting on their baby’s skin. If anyone from mamaearth reads this, please mention what is the ingredient in your secret mama’s love oil. In addition, please provide a complete ingredients list, thank you.

In Detail Mamaearth Gentle Cleansing Shampoo For Babies Review and My Experience

The shampoo comes in a tall white opaque bottle with a green colour flip open top. The design is comfortable to use.

I like the fun animal labels they have on the front on the products. So, in case you have a baby caretaker who does not know how to read, she can see these animal images and recognise which product is what. My only complain with the packaging – like I mentioned above, the missing complete ingredients’ list.

The shampoo has a moderate to thin, creamy consistency. It looks almost transparent. The smell is really nice and gentle. Not too flowery or anything. It doesn’t really linger around for long. The smell pretty much vanishes completely once you wash the shampoo off from the baby’s hair.

How I Use it

Now my baby loves to bath. However, touch her hair or her face, and she declares war! She would sit in the tub for as long as you want provided you don’t touch her hair or her face. So I really have to distract her while washing her hair or she cries out loudly.

So I sing songs and play with her bath toys while pouring a little water on her head just to make it wet. Then I take almost a double pea sized amount of this shampoo. Gently, I massage it on her hair.

Normally it would take 20 seconds if she’s co-operative. But it take me around a minute to keep distracting her and gently massaging the shampoo on her hair.

The shampoo creates a really soft and rich foam. After that, I lay her bath chair in her tub and then wash off the shampoo from her hair. I love that this shampoo is easier to wash off as compared to other baby shampoos that I have tried in the past.

Effects

My baby has curly hair. I always apply coconut oil or almond oil in her hair half to one hour before shampooing. Also, I shampoo her hair every alternate day. I don’t shampoo her hair everyday because baby hair are quite fine and I am scared I might over dry them by shampoo-ing everyday. On no shampoo days, I just wash her hair with normal water.

The shampoo is able to clean her hair really well leaving no traces of dirt or impurities. However, I feel it is not really as nourishing as it claims. After her hair dries, it definitely needs moisture otherwise it appears dry. Other than that, this shampoo is quite nice. It is gentle on my baby’s delicate skin and the gentle smell does not irritate her.

I always make sure the shampoo does not reach her eyes, but sometimes, while bathing, you cannot avoid a little drop tickling down towards the eyes. As soon as that happens, I always wipe it off with a clean cotton cloth I keep handy while bathing her. She is fine as soon as I wipe it. Hence, its likely that the shampoo does not irritate her.

Overall Verdict

Overall this shampoo is better than the johnson and himalaya shampoos that I have tried for my baby before. Better is the respect that it is easier to wash off and does not irritate my baby at all.

I would really appreciate if mamaearth could name their secret ingredient as well because I want to know what I putting on my baby. Secondly, my baby’s hair always need some moisturisation after this shampoo because I feel it isn’t very nourishing.

It cleans the hair and scalp very nicely, but does not really leave the hair nourished. I like to use a small amount of almond oil or coconut oil after her hair dries to keep the moisture intact.

  5. Does not irritate her skin or eyes.
  6. Not very costly.

CONs of Mamaearth Gentle Cleansing Shampoo For Babies

  1. Does not leave my baby’s hair nourished. Her hair feels slightly dry, so I always have to use something to moisturise like almond oil or coconut oil.
  2. They haven’t mentioned the complete ingredients list.
  3. They don’t have a small size of it sold separately. They do have small sizes of their products as a combo pack though. Basically you cannot buy the small size of one product alone. You will have to buy the entire combo pack.

MBF Advises

  1. I always try a product on myself before using on my baby. You can try doing that if you feel that your baby’s skin is delicate.
  2. Always do a patch test on your baby before using a product.
  3. I have heard a lot of people say to me – Baby’s cry during bathing, let it be, just bathe her. I say No! try and make bath time fun for babies. Distract her if she dislikes something. But making a baby cry while bathing her is not something that seems nice to me personally.
