Lime Crime Jinx Velvetine Matte Liquid Lipstick Review, Swatches: Hello beauties, I am so excited for my very first review, after having followed ‘makeup and beauty forever’ blog for a while now. Lime Crime is a California based Makeup Company. It’s founder being Doe Deere, the website says its “a makeup for unicorns” and all their products are vegan and cruelty free. Lime Crime launched their Velvetines range in 2012 and since then it’s been a major hit.

There are two variants in Velvetines liquid lipsticks: matte Velvetines and metallic Velvetines. The Velvetine I am going to review today, is the matte variant in shade Jinx. Jinx is deep, vampy purple shade with red undertones to it, a colour so deep yet look purple from far and won’t end up looking black, like most deep shades do. The website describes it as eggplant colour.

About Lime Crime Jinx Velvetine Matte Liquid Lipstick

  • Long lasting matte liquid lipstick in an eggplant hue.
  • Makes your lips feel luxurious and velvety, like a rose. Lasts all day with minimal touch-ups, even through meals.
  • What it won’t do: Bleed or transfer. Dry out properly moisturized lips. Ruin the perfect kiss.

How to Use Lime Crime Jinx Velvetine Matte Liquid Lipstick

  1. Apply lip balm 15 minutes prior; pat off excessive oils with a tissue.
  2. Apply Velvetines directly to lips (use a lip brush to refine edges).
  3. Remove at the end of the day with waterproof makeup remover or oil.

Price of Lime Crime Jinx Velvetine Matte Liquid Lipstick

$ 20.00 for 2.6 mL
It is quite expensive when compared to other brands like Huda beauty, Stila, etc. which offer more product at the similar price range.

Availability

On their website limecrime(dot)com. They are also available on online portals such as amazon, flipkart, ebay etc. But I really doubt the authenticity of those sold there. I had to wait several months to get an original one.
(friend got it from UK) Okay, so now let’s jump onto the review.

In Detail Lime Crime Jinx Velvetine Matte Liquid Lipstick Review, Swatches and My Experience

Packaging

Lime Crime Velvetines come in this paper carton with lots of roses on it in baby pink colour. At the back it states makeup for unicorns. The shade and the name is mentioned on the top leaf of the carton. The lipstick itself is in acrylic frosted bottle with clear neck and a doe foot wand, nothing fancy about it, just a classic doe foot wand which picks up enough liquid to colour those pucker evenly. For those beauties with thin lips and clumsy hands, like myself, it would be better to use a lip brush instead of the applicator.

Texture and Coverage

So the lipstick itself is very runny in consistency, neither creamy nor mousse like and dries within seconds, but gives enough time to maneuver. The coverage is way too good and is pigment rich to give that opaque layer of colour, and just one swipe is enough to cover up pigmentation. Of course, this is a very deep shade but even with the lighter shades, I am pretty sure one or two swipe would cover up. It has this vanilla cup cakey fragrance with little hints of chocolates which lasts for around 10-15 minutes post application so those with sensitive nose, be alert! Yes, it is pretty strong! Well, I personally have no problem with the fragrance, but some might.

Longitivity

Ahh! Now for the main part: How long does it last?
Does it dry out lips?
Does it?!
Well, in the end it’s a liquid lipstick and it is going to suck the moisture out of your lips, If used everyday like most other liquid lipsticks. But the shade is such that it cannot be used on a daily basis. So every time that I have used, it lasted till the end of the day. In fact, even after removing it, I did not feel any dryness as such. It is very comfortable to wear, does not feather or budge. So I decided to put it on to test the other day.

I wore it at 2pm. Had my lunch (rice and some curried lentils) which was not much oily and the lipstick wore out a bit from the centre, nothing serious. Had evening snack and a cup of coffee. I needed to touch it up a tad bit at around 8 pm and it was afresh. It was doing fine even post dinner (again not very oily) at around 12am with minimum wear out from the centre. In fact, I went to bed without removing it because I completely forgot that I had it on my lips. yes, it is that comfortable! It was still fine the following morning, except for wearing out from the corner of the mouth. After completely removing it, I did not feel any dryness. It does not accentuate dry patches, surprisingly!

Overall

Removing is easy with a makeup remover and does not stain lips. It has a nice silky matte finish to it, unlike other liquid lipsticks available in the market that dries down powder matte.

Both the swatches below (on hand as well as lips) have only one coat and the pigment is buildable.
BUT! Mind you, the company has a shady record of things in the past: With people receiving expired products to people having trouble with the lipstick becoming uncomfortably drying after two hours of application, yet remaining tacky and getting rubbed off easily with finger tip. So, unfortunately it is a gamble I would say. Buy with caution, at your own risk!!! According to me, this is the biggest let down about a company like Lime Crime.

  1. Exfoliating lips before using any lipstick that goes on liquid and dries matte.
  2. Using a brush to line the lips with the product helps achieve a crisp edge, eliminating the need for a lip liner.
